rant: recipe reviews without trying the recipe
Comments (28)I've been thinking about this. I usually look at all the reviews and find the ones in the middle that overlap. If there a million of them that say the sauce was too salty, I go with less salt. I toss the ones that sub unless I see how the sub makes more sense than what the recipe has. Or if I don't have what is needed, but someone substituted what I do have. Don't most sites require the rating before comments? I wish they were separate. It's those who give low stars after subbing everything that make me laugh. I just think "Maybe if you didn't change the recipe completely, it would've been great? Hello?" HA! I have two 1/8 measuring cups and use them constantly, more than others! It's great when I want to make a roux, because most recipes call for 2T of butter and 2T of flour. So one scoop and toss it into the pan. Love my 1/8 cups. I did have an 1/8t measuring spoon, but it's gone? :( I need to buy a new set. Maybe I'll go do that now......See MoreNew Iron (disclaimer...long rant)
Comments (8)I've not had an iron I've ever been happy with until a few years ago. This may sound terrible, but we found a Rowenta in my SIL storage unit after she had passed away...best darn iron I've ever used! I took a quilting class a few years ago and the first words out of the instructors mouth were , " Ladies, Do Not use steam for piecing or quilting...period end of discussion". She went on and on about how it stretches your cottons etc.....then I go to my first retreat and everyone is using steam?..I was surprized. As a normal rule I don't use steam, but I really think it has to do with the way you press....any thoughts on steam or dry iron? V....See MoreDo you have a person like this in your life? A rant
Comments (58)Hi again aprile, I've been considering your situation some, since reading your original post. You need some emotional space between you. Don't let him pull this passive-aggressive business on you. Don't let him push your buttons. How would he react if you began to rather laugh at these sillinesses? In something of a light-hearted way, not coming across as mean-spirited and bitter. I hope that you can find some ways to resolve some of these issues between you. Do you have some person who cares about you, and is level-headed and sensible, whether professionally trained or not, who can listen and be helpful as you work your way through this troubling situation? Maybe a faith-related person, who'll listen, consider your situation and you and not just offer a bunch of pre-digested nostrums, that are given as the answer to every person's need, regardless of their individual circumstance. I wonder some about your dad inhabiting his own little emotional cubbyhole - is there some way to help him get a larger view of life, and feel more at home in it? Has he dealt with counselling, or would he be amenable to such? Is there someone whom he trusts, to whom he might pay attention, were they to suggest it and encourage him? ole joyful...See Morework place rant (Long)
Comments (34)I agree with all of the above. My sister went through something similar. After rave reviews, all of a sudden there was ridiculous nitpicking. Luckily, she was nearing retirement, but she wanted to end her career WHEN SHE wanted to. Not be pushed out. She realized that through the years she was very vocal about protocol. Always honest and realized certain things were being overlooked on purpose due to financial reason. She felt that as long as the patients were not in any danger, she would follow the "new" protocol and keep her mouth shut. She too realized they could hire two fresh out of school therapists for the salary she was getting. It's all business, but you can't help but take it personally. Because we have feelings! Especially in a place that you have invested 25 years. But, if you want to stay, you need to find a way to do so. I would document everything as suggested already so if you are unexpectantly pushed out, you can have cause to show discrimination. At the very least, you deserve unemployment....See More
