If you hate Wal Mart as much as I do ......
Comments (40)Actually, I am prepared to buy the wife a fancy, dancy sewing machine, to make me some shirts, but she is hedging due to time. I can find fabric, just not finished goods. Pants I can find.....if I want khaki, or jeans. Not much else. Of course, they keep cutting them smaller, so I keep having to increase the size, despite the fact my belt fits the exact same hole as always. The other issue, is they use nylon zippers in pants now. How stupid is that? Might be ok for a dress, but doesn't hold up at all in men's pants. Nope. I ain't getting into any more businesses, whatsoever. Too old, and more than ready to retire. If the idiots in the fashion industry can't recognize their problems, then clothes will just have to be left on the rack. Oh yeah.....used to have to take extreme measures to make garments look good in fashion......including cutting the back of women's tops, so they would hang right in the front. (grin) If you knew all the tricks and manipulations used in photographing this stuff, you would be pretty surprised. Even with beaded and sequined gowns......we used a whole lot of pinning and clipping, to "adjust" garments. The stylist was the most important person on the team. It was their job to make the garments look good on the model.....any way they could. CD of the day...."Lullaby for the Moon", koto and shakuhachi....See Moreupdate: backsplash opinions please -- all comments welcome!
Comments (129)Wow, thank you tanders and kitchenredo08 for being interested in how it turned out. I PROMISE to put up some pictures within a week. This project has had a lot of ups and downs. First, it took about three weeks for the material to arrive. When it came, I was thrilled; it was exactly what I hoped for. Then came the really fun part: installation. I was talked into the idea that we could do this ourselves. Hmmmm, not sure how to characterize that decision since this post could potentially be read by the other party to the decision ;-). Anyway, let's suffice it to say that stone tile, especially a split face is not for the novice installer. But we got it installed with just a few snafus. Then it was time for grout. We started using the pastry bag method, but abandoned it when my hand began to cramp. Switched to a float. BIG mistake. Grout EVERYWHERE in ALL of the nooks and crannies. Three weeks later and we're still chipping out grout. But we're getting close. Close enough where I'm loving it again. So anyway, it's been an adventure. My advice to anyone who wants to do stone; hire a professional. Again, I PROMISE some pictures very soon. I'm too embarassed to post my kitchen right now with chisels and nano scrub and sponges everywhere. Karen...See Moregrandfather clock in master??
Comments (56)Cyn, I think that chest is too deep to put in the foyer. It is actually a dresser, I think I am going to put it back into the bedroom. Les, I think if I replace the splindley table with something heavier looking, it will make that end of the hallway seem even heavier looking imo. I think I am going to keep the two pieces where they were orginally and for now leave the space under the diptych empty for now and see if I can get used to it. olychic, if I put the clock in the hallway as you suggest, I will be the only one that sees the beautiful front of the clock, as those double doors are the doors to the home office. Also I dont care for the look of the clock from the sideview too much, the beauty of it is in the front but thanks for the suggestion....See MoreOpinions and Suggestions Welcome+ Lots of Pics for SuziNJ
Comments (18)i like the look of the 'encased' stove also - just not that close to the actual stove. i'd feel too closed in. it's good you put up the blocks to try it out for a few days. i've seen them where the 'side walls' are farther away - like to the end of the counter to the left of your stove and maybe 1 cabinet more to the right of it. somone did that on here - the spanish kitchen - and i loved it! but she had a BIG space for her stove. but again, everyone is different. i don't like closed spaces or heights. I think i'd also move the double ovens over to the end of the other counter run - to the right of the sink. you'd have the island to mix and put things together, then just turn around and pop it into the oven. if making cookies you could pull them out of the oven and slide them onto the counter top behind. pop another sheet of cookies into the oven. and just have a counter run to the right of the fridge too. i think it'd look more open in the area by the door on the left of your stove area if that wall wasn't floor to ceiling cabinets/appliances too. it looks a bit congested in that area....See Morenicole___
