OT: Please help me choose tile and counter for modern bath
Comments (4)Hi Maggie, I snapped that picture at Bedrosians. I didn't write down the name because I just liked the idea of the pattern, but looking at their website I think it was one of the Eclipse glass and marble mosaics, maybe Eternity or Marina. Here is a link that might be useful: Eclipse...See MoreHaving trouble picking island counter top to match, please help
Comments (2)We have a traditional kitchen but similar colors to yours---white Shaker perimeter and dark cherry island. Our perimeter counters are a dark green granite with a lot of "movement" and the island is a white guartzite called luce di luna. The quartzite is a real stone, slightly harder than granite I'm told but I'm not sure, and at least in our area a bit more expensive. It is, however, very calm and I could see it in a modern kitchen such as you describe. When we priced out granite, quartzite, and zodiaq we found the price difference for our kitchen was really rather negligible so we went with the granite and the quartzite but if the zodiaq---I think it was misty carrera that we were considering---had been much less we would have used that instead of the quartzite. Comments (12)One mistake you are making in your thinking is a common one - that all granites are lumped together in one group. There are thousands of granites. Some are carefree and will not stain and can take all kitchen tasks for years and years without showing anything. In the other extreme are granites that are more stain-prone, require sealing every few months and can be etched and/or stained. My granite counters are more than 10 years old. They have not been sealed. I do not baby them, and have spilled things like wine and tomato juice on them while cooking. They look like the day they were installed. I have never in all this time grown tired of their natural beauty. Go to a stoneyard, and ask to see granites that have "low absorption rates", i.e. they are dense, and therefore won't stain. If you see a granite you like, and can't find information on its durability, get the name, and also take a photo, and post on this forum. Likely someone will have information on it....See MoreHelp me choose Quartz countertop
Comments (20)jhmarie thanks for the reasoning. i don't know the cost of either. i have a rough idea, but don't want that to be a deciding factor. if i like something i'm getting it :) your comment about finding it everywhere might be true! when they asked me at the stone yard if i wanted to hold the speckled slab they told me it was the last of 150 slabs brought in only 3 months prior but assured me they would better getting more because it was so popular, so that tells me that your right about a lot of people having it! i don't mind the speckled i was just looking for one that was more consistent as i thought i would have more back splash options, but maybe i'm getting ahead of myself?...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
