Would you choose granite or quartz counter top? Why?
Comments (12)One mistake you are making in your thinking is a common one - that all granites are lumped together in one group. There are thousands of granites. Some are carefree and will not stain and can take all kitchen tasks for years and years without showing anything. In the other extreme are granites that are more stain-prone, require sealing every few months and can be etched and/or stained. My granite counters are more than 10 years old. They have not been sealed. I do not baby them, and have spilled things like wine and tomato juice on them while cooking. They look like the day they were installed. I have never in all this time grown tired of their natural beauty. Go to a stoneyard, and ask to see granites that have "low absorption rates", i.e. they are dense, and therefore won't stain. If you see a granite you like, and can't find information on its durability, get the name, and also take a photo, and post on this forum. Likely someone will have information on it....See MoreHelp me choose Quartz countertop
Comments (21)Ok guys I'm back looking at counter tops again and would appreciate your feedback. The left you've seen a million times London Sky and the right Viatera Calacutta which of these two so you like? I don't know why but the larger vein Quartz is growing on me :)here is the slab they pulled for me today of the Calacutta: I also went to another place and looked at the Neolith porcelain which I can't stop thinking about because it's really really pretty...but I'm so worried about having issues either with fabrication, install or use :/ I've read every Neolith thread which some sound risky and watched demo videos which some look impressive. i love the polished but no way to the potential scratching so was considering the silk finish. While I was still in the showroom area discussing the Neolith with one of the salesman a couple came in and looked at the large island sample of Neolith and I overheard the woman say to her DH what's this it looks like plastic. I don't think the salesman heard her as he continued to brief me but that took the wind out of my sail a bit when she said that :( We proceeded to the warehouse where he showed me the slabs. My opinion...still so pretty :) Thoughts?...See MoreHelp me choose a Quartz Manufacturer for Kitchen Countertop
Comments (13)Cambria is definitely my wish list and NeoLith is my dream list. Unfortunately Cambria is about 34% higher in price and I didn't even try to price Neolith. LG is $200 more than MSI or Compac on a 35 sq ft, but I think the final sq ft is about 42-45. I chose LG because it is using Breton equipment to make quartz and has a manufacturing facility in Georgia (Made in USA). NoSoccerMom bought out a good point regarding seam width, lippage, and the uniformity of slabs which I am going to follow up with the fabricator. The fabricator is not the biggest or most advertised in town but it has been around since 1936. It is not the cheapest but my guts and research tell me to with the them. Thank you all for all comments. Will keep you posted....See MoreHelp! advice of black sparkly quartz for counter top
Comments (2)Have you owned a black car? If not, go to a big parking lot and look at a few. Does their appearance make you itch to wipe them off? Do you live in a dry and dusty location? Do you have neatnik family members? Or are they careless about cleaning up after themselves? Do you clean as you go, or after everything is done? What level of maintenance is acceptable to you? Daily wiping? Twice daily? Thrice? More? There is no right or wrong material for everyone. There is only matching your expectations to the maintenance that you find acceptable....See Moremoggala
