Would you choose granite or quartz counter top? Why?
Comments (12)One mistake you are making in your thinking is a common one - that all granites are lumped together in one group. There are thousands of granites. Some are carefree and will not stain and can take all kitchen tasks for years and years without showing anything. In the other extreme are granites that are more stain-prone, require sealing every few months and can be etched and/or stained. My granite counters are more than 10 years old. They have not been sealed. I do not baby them, and have spilled things like wine and tomato juice on them while cooking. They look like the day they were installed. I have never in all this time grown tired of their natural beauty. Go to a stoneyard, and ask to see granites that have "low absorption rates", i.e. they are dense, and therefore won't stain. If you see a granite you like, and can't find information on its durability, get the name, and also take a photo, and post on this forum. Likely someone will have information on it....See MoreHelp me choose Quartz countertop
Comments (20)jhmarie thanks for the reasoning. i don't know the cost of either. i have a rough idea, but don't want that to be a deciding factor. if i like something i'm getting it :) your comment about finding it everywhere might be true! when they asked me at the stone yard if i wanted to hold the speckled slab they told me it was the last of 150 slabs brought in only 3 months prior but assured me they would better getting more because it was so popular, so that tells me that your right about a lot of people having it! i don't mind the speckled i was just looking for one that was more consistent as i thought i would have more back splash options, but maybe i'm getting ahead of myself?...See MoreNeed help choosing a quartz counter top, please!
Comments (8)Egan-I would reduce island length by around 12”. I would eliminate pony walls on ends and use decorative cabinet end panels and reduce 18” cabinet on far end to 12” cabinet. Make sure your cabinets are designed with proper metal support plates for slab. 12-13” overlay for stools is tight. I would expand to 16”. Most slabs can accommodate that total width. 36” deep plus 4” more would mean slab has to be 40-44” wide and 108-112” long. That is doable for most slabs without seams....See MoreHelp Choosing Quartz Countertops!!!!
Comments (16)leeklee- look at the top on her original post. she posted everything she used. HI everyone! We are in the midst of a major remodel and I've reached the point of pure panic about choosing the right quartz countertops for our kitchen. Here are the selections we've made so far: Perimeter cabinets: Revere Pewter lightened to 75% and black hardware 7.5' x 5' Island: Stained white oak with brushed brass hardware Backsplash: matte white subway tile (3x10) Island pendant: dark ORB with three glass globes in this pic she said she used agreeable gray, (her old house...See MoreMaWizz
