Question about painting interior doors
Comments (11)tnpd, thanks! The color is called 'Mint Tea,' but I'm afraid it is only available through the regional hardware store called BTU here in the Southwest. It is their house brand paint, but I'm sure there are many well-known, widely available brands that would have a very similar color. It's a minty, icy green-blue, as you can see, more green than blue. Our house is an old, early 1890's Victorian home that had some very dominant Arts & Crafts modifications added in the early 1920's. I decided that dark trim was most appropriate to the very prominent Arts & Crafts detailing, but we weren't going to strip the paint off all the trim in the whole house in order to stain it darker as is found in Arts & Crafts styled homes, and it appears to be pine trim anyway. The compromise was to paint the trim in shades of brown that would go with the wood floors and the Arts & Crafts details....See MoreInterior glass/soundproofing question
Comments (6)I once lived in a home with very good double pane windows and many nights, there was a constant high pitched hum that drove me crazy. I tried everything and checked the internet for resolutions. The noise was either a highway far off or some industry nearby that got progressively louder as the night went on. To make a long story short, we ended up replacing our bedroom windows and when we did, we went with laminated (not tempered) glass and the noise disappeared. It could have been a frequency problem more than a sound problem, but after 8 years of hum, the next 5 years were so peaceful. We had tempered glass in the bathroom and I could still hear the hum at night when I got up....See MoreRemove interior wall between a living room and family room

Comments (0)I have an un-utilized front porch area that I want to open up to my main house area (on the right through the glass door) by building an internal wall as shown below. This will act as a foyer/entry way for my front door which is open to the main house (picture 2). I plan to remove the big sliding glass door and just create an arch way into the main house. The brick floor is real brick with a concrete slab below it. If i remove the brick, it will be about 3-4 inches below the level of my main floor. 1. Can i build an interior wall on top of the brick? (i assume no) 2. If I have to remove the brick, what are my options to lay flooring? Should i just create a ramp/step up into the main area or do i need to build a subfloor on top of the concrete? Any other thoughts or recommendations are helpful....See MoreJanice
