Too hot to move fig cuttings outside?

I would like to separate my fig cuttings and pot them up to bigger pots outside. But it’s summer here now (DFW, TX). The temps are reaching into highs of the 90s and 100s. Is this too hot for the cuttings? Would I have to wait for fall?

One of the cuttings has already wilted. Im not sure if it got dried out or rotted. My last attempt at fig cuttings, they all died of root rot while still on the windowsill. So I have been trying to let it dry out between waterings.

This is an East facing window. Its usually 76-78F inside the house.

Are they well rooted? if so they should be ok outside once they have been properly hardened off. Figs grow happily in hot places.

I believe they are well rooted, but the roots may get a little damaged when I separate them.

How should I harden them off? Should I keep them in the shade outside?

Easier said that done isn't it? Every Spring and Fall, I move my potted trees back and forth, sometimes a couple of times per week. After it looks like it's becoming a futile waste of time, I finally stop until next season. But what makes this do-able is these two hand trucks from Nursery Enterprises for moving large potted plants. The bigger one has allowed me alone to do the work of a team of men--all without damaging my expensive pots. In the interests of refining the process, I thought I'd post these progress pictures - this is Day 5 of gradual exposure. The leaves have darkened up over the week, where I have been adding an hour of prime sun every day, using the distance from a northside wall to control exposure. They have had to come in two nights because of low temperatures. As you can see, relatively little other green outside, the grass really just started out of dormancy perhaps 10 days ago. Without tasting a fig yet, I would say this is a qualified success, there are a few visible figs now and quite a few buds forming, overall they seem healthy. Last frost date is still almost two weeks, once that comes they will around to a full sun location. I put them into sunlight and indoor heating in early March, primarily because they appeared to be breaking dormancy anyway. Next year, I may try a few weeks later, the fact that the breba dropped off suggests that conditions for fruit formation have been less ideal. These were fairly small last year when I got them (August), so I didn't have great expectations for this year anyway.

Been 90-100 here in the KC area for the last 6 weeks with only a 5 day cool down just before the 4th. My tomatoes managed to set a nice second flush of fruit during that short cool down. 95 today with heat index near 110 but after today our 15 day forecast does not have any highs above 91...sure hope they are right!! Peter - I just planted my fall carrots yesterday . Danvers Half Long, Bolero, and Napoli. I lightly wet down the bed a couple hours prior to sowing then sowed the seed, lightly watered again and covered the beds with cardboard so they stay moist and cooler until they germinated in a 5 or 6 days. I used the same method last year in similar heat and got very good germination. The only problem I had was trying to keep from sweating all over the seed.

My problem with growing multiple different trees in 1 pot is.... whichever tree is the most vigorous will take over with a bigger root system, taking more nutrients and space in the soil. I had a "cocktail citrus tree" Meyer lemon and Limequat both in the same container. They did poorly compared to my single tree pots.... and by the time I wanted to seperate the trees, it was way too late, roots were tangled up with eachother and massive damage was done. Long story short, they both died. Let me know how the project turns out Moonlight but It's not one that excites me. There's a reason why all the experts and farmers grow trees with spacing requirements.... They know the best way to grow trees. I'm not saying they can't be grown together... just saying they'll grow less compared to separate pots.

They still look very fragile for hot water, and dry air.

You need to introduce them to outside temperature and dry air slowly, start with half hour in early morning sun and increase time every day, do not forget to moisten them spray water on them.

Make sure soil is moist not wet.

You can allso introduce them to the outdoor inin full day shade but use sprey bottles to moisten it at last every hour, or wait until it cools off or for rainy days.

If you need to seperate them and they have good roots, do that first. Give them a week or two to make sure they are taking to the transplant OK or wilting off further. Either start turning the pots regularly or use an extra light if possible- your leaves turned to the window like that are looking for light. Then start hardening them off gently, your area is indeed getting hit with hot temps.

If they don't have good roots yet, I would keep them inside still till they do have good roots. Be careful with keeping the soil evenly moist, not too wet or dry.
