Break fig dormancy INSIDE, then move outside?

I live in Z4 in SE MN. Have a potted fig that is starting to break bud in the cold dark garage. I'm going to start giving it some daylight now, getting it used to being outside again.

I am wondering if I could have brought the fig into the house in, say, late March and brought it out of dormancy INSIDE. Then move it outside when the risk of frost is past. That would significantly extend its growing season, and make it more comparable to the growing season figs would enjoy in Z7. Has anyone tried that?

Obviously, this would be difficult with a really big fig. But now it's a manageable size. How would the fig respond?

Thanks, TH
