I like the shakes the cedar color they are. I would keep them as they are. Why do you need to replace them? In the pictures, they look very nice. You didnt ask about landscaping, but, thats what your house mostly needs. Those squared off hedges, could be removed or replanted elsewhere, and much nicer landscaping with flowers and nice plants be put in that area. Pretty house.

If the cedar shakes are in good condition stain them a slightly darker, less orange color. If you replace them with Hardie board, that comes in certain colors prepainted or you can paint it any color you want. Choose a color from the brick. Can you post a closer up picture of the brick so we can get a better idea of what colors are in it? Are your windows black or bronze?

The shakes are rotted in a lot of places and need replaced. Landscaping will be done after paint.

What do you mean by “modern?” Your rustic, natural wood shutters do not read “modern.” I would remove them completely.

Modern was probably the wrong choice of words- just updated. I loathe the orange. The cedar shakes have a very heavy orange stain on them.
