Will Classic gray look more gray or beige with my granite?
We are repainting every inch of our home and have narrowed the whole house wall color to be swiss coffee, calm, or classic gray. Classic gray was my last choice but we are suprised a swiss coffee samplize sticker looks pretty yellow in a lot of our rooms/lighting, and we are seeing pinky/purple in calm in some places. CG seems like the most neutral, however I do NOT want to paint the whole house and it appear ”gray”. And I also dont want it to look too yellow/beige. I want it to read just neutral with a visible difference/contrast to a bright white trim. I’ve read tons of conflicting opinions about which trim color: chantilly lace, white dove, simply white. Whichever we choose for trim will be the cabinets and all ceilings, too. I’m worried we arent picking a white that looks goos woth the classic gray and also our existing kitchen granite and backsplash and medium brown hardwoods. Please give me advice on which color combos might work best in our space.

Showed all the comments to my hubby as well to convince him ;) At the warehouse now... just found out slab #3 (light gray and white) has a "smiley face" crack on it :/ I'll have to see if the fabricator can work around it. The "super white" looks super gray here. The frosty carrina looks great but still a little expensive for us :( Aprilneverends-You're so right about the movement on the cabinets! We had painted over builder's oak. That is a big factor that I'm considering when picking the movement on the countertop Aboxofcrayons-I love your cabinets! Is it the distressed wood look? I would love to see your kitchen once the countertops are installed! Oldbat2be- I have laminate right now and there are few burn spots on it too. I'm dying for something new, glossy, and durable :) Torreykm-We had our cabinets painted with a gray stain. I originally wanted a distressed wood or driftwood look. Our GC ended up painting it! Comments (83)Without seeing the floors, it’s very hard to say, but somewhere in this post you can see my wood look tiles in my bathroom which are gray and it looks awesome. I would recommend getting a sample and putting it up in the basement. Since I assume there is very little natural light, the tone will largely depend on your lighting. If your flooring has a warm gray tone to it, it will probably look great. If it has a bluish cool gray tone to it, you’d have to see how it looks side by side. Hope this helps a little! Comments (6)The white isn't helping, that's for sure. You should never compare colors on a white background because white will make the color look more muted and darker than it really is. Rules of Color #1: A color chip will appear brighter or less gray if the background color is relatively dark or black. Comments (7)I think he just tinted primer for better coverage since it was going over gold. Maybe he was going to try and only have to do 1 coat plus tinted primer, but he is going to do 2 coats. Benjamin Moore said that tinted primer may show more blue then the regular paint so I am hoping that gets rid of some of the undertone ice blue that I am seeing. I did put the original sample board next to the paint and it does match up. Good news is that when I put my white cabinet door next to the paint on walls, it gets rid of that blue tone. I am thinking that maybe my old dove white trim is working against the paint and it will be fine when the brighter white trim goes up. 10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoI wouldn't do gray walls with those cabinets. Go for a neutral white like Simply White. If you want a tone to the walls, I'd opt for something like Benjamin Moore's Sailcloth:

10 months agoYou need to start by painting the ceilings flat white. I would then use white primer in that whole kitchen & family room area. Then I would take those 3 final colors, buy a quart of each and paint large 5 ft square sections. Only then make a final choice. Do it once and do it right!
I've posted this photo before, but it shows you some colors. I picked my first color because it looked great in my parents' house! Ended up too dark and pulled very yellow in my new house. I repainted to something lighter, which still has some yellow, but most of my furnishings art, etc have warm tones, so that is what worked best.
Trim = BM Chantilly Lace semi-glossceiling = BM Chantilly lace flat
Walls, darker old color = BM Winds Breath matte
Walls, lighter new color = BM White Dove matte
