Paint Remodeling Design Dilemma

HELP!!! BM Classic Grey looks BABY BLUE!

I purchased like 10 samples of off whites, painted boards and relocated them to different areas of rooms at different times of the day. I read tons of blogs and posts to avoid paint that was too yellow, too muddy, too cold, too sterile...I finally chose classic grey thinking it was safer than a white and would do well with lighting in kitchen, family room and powder room. Warm and light, well...

I walked in after work and I see BABY BLUE!!! Like a cold color of ice. Now it is just the primer that was tinted, but my painter said that will be the color. It looks like a light warm vanilla on one wall (perfect), a neutral beige/grey in powder room (perfect) and baby blue on the one kitchen wall. The old white dove trim that will be painted oxford white looks like dirty off white/yellow. There are drop cloths on the floor and bright white kitchen cabinets aren't in yet.

Is it too early and I need to have all coats on because tinted primer is not the color or do I stop this before I have a baby blue, ice white kitchen and family room???

We need pictures but honestly I have no idea how that color could look baby blue ever. I will say choosing wall color before the kitchen is installed is never a good idea . You all kinds of stuff going on the trim IMO should have been done first . What is your lighting in these spaces ?

The rooms faces South East. Rooms are not dark, but also not super bright which is why I went with Classic Grey. I called the paint store and they said the blue is just from the primer and it will cover when the paint goes on.

I could get my doctorate in gray paint, I think. I have sampled 30 colors. Really. Just had the foyer painted finally in Baltic Gray. No blue undertones to me. No green undertones either. Check this color out. If you notice on the color strip, it goes towards the browns. It is a warm color, I was so afraid that even with all of my research, including my thesis paper on gray (kidding) I was still going to feel that this gray was cold. I mean it's a 2 story foyer. But it was such a warm gray when I came home to see it. So check it out. Good luck! And remember you must sample the gray in your space, just don't go by those paint chips. (Lowe's can make any sample for about 2.50 for you)

My daughter has Coventry and I love it but agree it has blue in it. I also like Revere Pewter but it does read beige grey. Other grey's that don't read beige and don't have blue in them are BM Sea Haze 2137-50 and gray owl on same strip 2137-60. I see some green undertones in them. Ozark shadows AC 26 has less beige than Revere Pewter with no blue. It's also about as deep as Coventry. Harbor gray, one lighter on strip AC 25 looks more true grey but lighter than Coventry. I know you said no purple undertone, but my neighbor used a beautiful grey called Valspar Smooth Pebble, which looks like a beautiful med. grey in her bedroom. I wouldn't have realized it had purple undertones until we tried to have it mixed by BM. They screwed it up and it showed alot of purple on the swatch we painted on the wall. However, even as badly mixed as it was, once it dried , it dried a nice grey. But we didn't give it a chance cause we freaked cause her bedroom was painted purple prior to the grey. So she went with coventry. also, Silver Fox BM2108-50 is a popular grey but I do see purple/tan undertones, much like the Valspar color. I would try Silver Fox, Valspar smooth pebble and Ozark Shadows. If you want lighter and tanner, then Revere Pewter.

LFG can give off a purple-blue undertone in certain lighting. Just had it done and it was mixed correctly. I had our bedroom painted with it and in natural light, with sun, it is the beautiful gray most of love. In the evening, and with artificial light, it does put off those blue tones but for me, in a bedroom, it’s not offensive. I’m trying to look at it with an open mind and the important thing for me is it still feels soothing and fresh. We tried about 6 different grays on our walls (tan to start)... Analytical gray was too mocha, Chelsea gray was nice but a little too cement for a whole room. The key to make it pop was painting the ceiling Ceiling Bright White and we will do the trim and baseboards either in Alabaster or High Reflective White.

Don’t mind my messy kitchen but this is a north facing wall. This room has natural light behind it. I would say in this room it is definitely creamier and less gray. However in my east facing living room it is definitely more gray. It’s a great color, it really goes with everything. Hope this helps!

Kitchen has large window and slider and family room has 2 skylights, slider and 2 tall windows.

I wouldn't panic just yet. And I have many questions.

Why the need for primer - what was wrong with the wall that needed repair/primed for the new coat.

Why did they tint the primer - the reason you tint primer is as a supportive undercoat for the new color so it hides properly. Classic Gray doesn't need an undercoat to achieve proper hide in two coats.

The color of the primer base is different from top coat base which means you will get different results when colorant is added. Why would the painter tell you that the primer version of Classic Gray is the same as the actual mix of Classic Gray.

I think he just tinted primer for better coverage since it was going over gold. Maybe he was going to try and only have to do 1 coat plus tinted primer, but he is going to do 2 coats.

Benjamin Moore said that tinted primer may show more blue then the regular paint so I am hoping that gets rid of some of the undertone ice blue that I am seeing.

I did put the original sample board next to the paint and it does match up. Good news is that when I put my white cabinet door next to the paint on walls, it gets rid of that blue tone. I am thinking that maybe my old dove white trim is working against the paint and it will be fine when the brighter white trim goes up. Here are the photos:

Also do you think Calcutta Gold Quartz will work? It seemed like it also worked when I put it near paint.

I like the look. Pretty, neutral, light airy, but not stark and sterile.

I know this is an old thread but im curious how your walls look. We are planning on doing out open concept classic gray as well. Also i wonder if the blue look was a reflection from outside maybe?
