calling Alku05 and golddust: white granite + marble backsplash
Comments (10)I'm slow, but I'm here! Our white venatino marble backsplash was chosen and ordered by using only samples. That means I took my granite sample to tile stores and chose the the tile. A major influence on my decision was that the tile was on closeout for a steal, and my DH really wanted plain white....the marble was as big of a concession as I could get out of him. (I guess it was a good thing, because the jade green marble tile that I loved was $32/sqft and that was NOT in our budget!) When the counters were installed and the tile came in I realized my mistake in using samples to choose the backsplash. It turned out that the granite sample that I had was the whitest part of the slab, and the tile we got was less creamy than the sample in the store. Ok, it wasn't creamy at all. At first, I was really crushed, because I had such a tone issue. It was a near enough miss that they didn't look like they matched, but not different enough for it to look like I did it on purpose. However, there was no way my DH was going to let me not use the $350 of tiles that took twice as long to come in as they were supposed to. So I sucked it up and installed them and learned to love them. I worked hard to sell it to myself as a white-on-white kinda design thing. So before making a final decision, I highly recommend that you do a mockup to see the tiles on your wall. Tape them to something and prop them up so you can see how they look in daylight and your kitchen's light. Here's a few picks of my tile so you can see the near miss in color. Notice that in some light, it's a good match, and in other light, it's very different. The middle picture taken by the ovens is the most true to life depiction of the tile and counter colors. Sorry I't not focused well....See MoreDoes this look good? (granite/white cab pic)
Comments (31)Jan-Jan, I am in a similar situation to you. I am trying to find a counter that will go with my white Cabs. Can you submit photos fo the surrounding rooms attached to the kitchen? What other colors besides the gray, white and stainless steal do you have? I see the basket you have? Do you use baskets? Beiges, warm light browns? What about furniture? And what is your favorite color? You said you have blues in your bedroom? Do you like blues? Blue and White? Here are some cottage kitchens that might help you narrow your granite ideas or help you choose one. I think both granites are neutral enough to work but it is the big picture you might want to look at. Maybe these pics I found from Country Magazine might help. Many of these extras might pull it together. This photo has a gray floor too. This one is plain but done nicely. Perhaps the gray counter with a few wood accents could warm up your cottage kitchen ideas. This kitchen has different hardware than yours but notice how the room is warmed up by a brown toned granite. Someone recommended a different granite than you were thinking so I thought this pic might give you some ideas. Not to add more stress but here is a granite that is another option with your white. I know you have tile floor but just maybe this could be an option. I am visual learner and find that when I look at ideas or images I can better figure out what I want. Maybe these pics can help you too. Best or luck and looking forward to seeing your final choice....See MoreDo you like your Viscont White granite counters?
Comments (153)Any specific suggestions on wall color with VW counters? Bright white cabinets, satib nickel hardware, white subway tile backsplash, white appliances, and SW Agreeable grey walls in adjacent living room with open floor plan. Looking to bring in some contrast. Thinking of SW Dorian grey or comfort grey. Not much natural light at all in a center unit townhouse. Any suggestions? Completely open To ideas. Comments (29)Yes, they have already taken the piece back and will reshape the whole thing. There are no seams in this piece. They had actually done a new template and said it would be no problem to position the sink with a 4" set back, but then they twice got in slabs that don't match the rest of the counter. So they've now given the options of having the slabs not match or cutting the existing sink piece to try to get the sink closer (although it still wouldn't be as close as it could be). I'm prepared to push for more options, but I want to know everything wrong with this plan before we talk to them again....See Morecupofkindnessgw
