ni: I'm not either of the 2 you were calling, but I did want to say I love your cabinet and granite combination.

I too have chosen the B.R.granite and though I have not viewed the full slabs yet I'm sitting here looking at the sample as I type.

I agree that the marble could look too white & cold (only based on the piece I have here in front of me), but perhaps you have enough light coming in to your kitchen (lucky you! It sure looks lovely and bright!) for it to work just fine. Or, perhaps you can find a marble that has a warmer undertone to it.

What is your wall colour? Is it a white as it appears on my screen in your photo, or is it yet to be decided?

I have 2 sets of paint samples I'm auditioning. The warmer samples are BM revere pewter & edgecomb gray (picks up the more yellowy/green out of the granite sample), and the cooler tones of BM Coventry Gray and Wickham Gray which picks up the more blue/gray veining.

Hopefully I'll find just the right backsplash material that will be the deciding factor for 'warm' or 'cool'.

I'm also responding to the call, but not one of the people you're seeking. . . But, I have a white granite - bianco romano and marble backsplash. I love it. I think it looks delicious in person. My challenge was to tie in my very warm beige-y travertine floor. I selected a marble that had beige-y undertones, along with the traditional grey, and selected a warm ivory grout. Here's some pics - the bottom two were taken pre-grout. Hope this helps. . .

also not who you are calling too, but i think you could pick a grout color that would blend with your granite....light gray or something???

I'm slow, but I'm here! Our white venatino marble backsplash was chosen and ordered by using only samples. That means I took my granite sample to tile stores and chose the the tile. A major influence on my decision was that the tile was on closeout for a steal, and my DH really wanted plain white....the marble was as big of a concession as I could get out of him. (I guess it was a good thing, because the jade green marble tile that I loved was $32/sqft and that was NOT in our budget!)

When the counters were installed and the tile came in I realized my mistake in using samples to choose the backsplash. It turned out that the granite sample that I had was the whitest part of the slab, and the tile we got was less creamy than the sample in the store. Ok, it wasn't creamy at all. At first, I was really crushed, because I had such a tone issue. It was a near enough miss that they didn't look like they matched, but not different enough for it to look like I did it on purpose. However, there was no way my DH was going to let me not use the $350 of tiles that took twice as long to come in as they were supposed to. So I sucked it up and installed them and learned to love them. I worked hard to sell it to myself as a white-on-white kinda design thing.

So before making a final decision, I highly recommend that you do a mockup to see the tiles on your wall. Tape them to something and prop them up so you can see how they look in daylight and your kitchen's light.

Here's a few picks of my tile so you can see the near miss in color. Notice that in some light, it's a good match, and in other light, it's very different.

The middle picture taken by the ovens is the most true to life depiction of the tile and counter colors. Sorry I't not focused well.

katienic - I can't wait to see your kitchen with the bianco romano granite! We have not picked a paint color yet (we've been living with primed walls since August 2008), although I kind of like BM Wedgewood gray at the moment. I will check out the Coventry Gray and Wickham Gray colors you mentioned.

jen19083 - The bianco romano and marble backsplash combo looks great in your kitchen. Where did you get your tiles? I like how they have the warm tones. What grout color did you pick?

gglks - I think you recommended mini brick marble tiles in a previous post. It's good to hear back from you. I think the grout color may hold the secret in resolving this dilemma.

Alku - good to hear from you. Thank you for the pictures showing the tones in your granite and backsplash. I see how different the two are. Your kitchen has been an inspiration to me and a lot of others. You should be proud of it!

Picking the backsplash has been the most difficult decision in this remodel (even harder than picking the granite). One minute I want creamy ceramic subway tiles with nice glass inserts or Sonoma Tantrum tiles and the next minute I love the idea of having marble subway tiles. I am so confused!

I am going to looks for marble tiles that have warmer tones. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!

Ni_2006, don't get me wrong, I am very proud of my kitchen! I love it, mini-warts and all. I just choose to think of the mini-warts as beauty marks, a method I learned here and strongly recommend.

Kmo1, our cabinets are Kitchencraft in cherry with the Chelsea door and sienna stain.

I like how the marble bricks looks against your granite. Can you take a shot of it in the vertical position??

I am planning on doing white onyx for my backsplash (I have bianco antico), still waiting on samples to come in. They seem to have a touch more warmth in tone than the white/gray marbles I saw in the showroom. While there is plenty of the honey onyx in the stores, the white has been harder to come by, but this might be an option for you.

alku... just want to let you know that I think your kitchen looks beautiful in every light! I will be ecstatic if mine comes out looking half as nice a yours.
