FWIW, according to photographer Caroline Parker of Rose Notes: "'Common Moss' [Rosa centifolia muscosa] does very well in pots. The two shown in the [linked] picture: http://rosenotes.typepad.com/.a/6a010535bf3807970c01156ef0b7ca970c-pi  have been in those pots for twenty years. If they mildew, I’ll cut them back once or twice in a season. New leaves generate quickly. Since the rose blooms once, it receives one dose of fertilizer as new leaves emerge in spring." Parker lives in San Francisco, I believe. Some clones may be smaller and even more amenable to pot culture.

Seed donations of all types wanted for virtual seed bank. We can use everything, even seeds that are hybrids( they will be distributed solely for eating), seeds that are even several years old can be used. I have included a bit of information below that discribes what I am doing. Please also feel free to join! I would like to share with you a new seed library/seed trading group I have created. Unfortunately at this time it is only open to members of the USA. Every skill level of gardener is welcome from beginners to advanced. It’s a family friendly group so parents are welcome to have their kids participate with them. I have quiet a few years experience with container gardening everything from tomatoes, peppers,flowers,cucumbers,beans and more. So if your limited on space that’s definitely an option that I can help with. How it works: I will be keeping a collection of seeds that will be open for you to borrow from. You send in a self addressed stamped envelope to me and I fill your request for whatever variety you want to grow. You then plant the variety/varieties you picked out. After the plants mature, you simply send back some of the seed you harvest ( to restock the library’s supply for others) and you keep some to plant the following year or trade with others for different varieties. If you have a bad season, no harm no foul you are welcome to try again. Curious. I don't think our World Books had those. Do you have one or more "yearbooks" that they published? Do you know how old your set is? Ours was a 1927 set and we were kids of the 1950s to 1970s. It was interesting to see, though, that some of the articles were unchanged from 1927 to --say-- the 1970 edition which we could look at in the school library. I remember the article on "Rainbow" was unchanged, except that it now had some color illustrations. But the '27 edition was no good if we needed to look up something about WWII, NASA and space exploration, Hawaii and Alaska as states, laser, suburbanization, Cold War, most of the presidents of the 20th century, etc. The Britannica was old, but not nearly so and had much longer, deeper discussion about everything. Britannica's article authors were identified, so not committee written. Ha, I remember we also had an old set of Funk & Wagnalls. Remember those? Our very old ones were kind of weird, filled with some rather archaic styles of writing. By the 1960s, F&W had become a lot like World Book. Our household did not have enough books; that is probably why I so clearly remember the encyclopedias. There was not much else around to read, (newspapers, cereal boxes, magazines --yes!) especially in summer without the school library, so we read the encylopedias. Oh, glory--- when the county finally opened a little library a couple miles away!

I have found many buried "treasures" over the years in my yard. I tried to put in a vegetable garden in the far back left corner of my backyard which was a bad idea because a small spring runs deep underground and that area is always wet. As I was digging I came up with all kinds of metal pieces, shards of pretty pottery, a few coins. Then I remembered in the early 1960's my Dad had a burn barrel out there. Every now and then I go poking around there and have found a few dinky toys and a perfectly intact old style lipstick case, buttons. My oldest brother said he buried a time capsule in the backyard in the 1950's but he can't remember where and my younger brother said he buried a tin box of coins under the gas meter at the side of the house. I told my brother he should get a metal detector to find the time capsule. I also have had fill added to my backyard to make it higher to stop neighbours water run off so it will be harder to find old childhood buried treasures if there are any left. My property in the 1800s was part of a French family's farm field so unless my siblings buried anything there would be nothing but dirt. One thing I do hope to find one day is my sister's opal ring. In 1972 she got mad at her boyfriend and took the ring off and threw it. At the time we were getting a new road so the front yard and driveway were dug up. I tried to find the ring at the time and couldn't find it. She even went out and looked but there was too much dirt. Even now when I look out my front window and see something twinkle on the gravel driveway I go out and look hoping it is the ring that popped up from underground knowing that it would be impossible because over the years since then I have had 2 loads of gravel to the driveway.
