Living room/dining room furniture placement help.
Comments (12)I moved some things around and I think I like it better. I know the rug is too small and it shouldn't be "floating" but I don't want a new one until we get the other changes done. I moved the dresser into the dining room and hung (probably too high but couldn't convince 6'3" hubby to lower it and he had a point about being out of reach of the tornado. haha) the sign and pictures that had been on the mantle in the dining room. We also took off the ridiculous trim board they had up because we will be replacing the slider soon. So many things in this house like that silliness. I organized most of the books and moved the bookshelf. And grabbed a few canvases (I know they are small but can't remember where we left my big one) I did the flower, my dad painted the one on the right in Vietnam in '68. We need to fix the coffee table my dad built that's in the garage, I'll put it in front of the sofa, it's a little under 6'long, so it might be technically too big but, again, it's what I have. How'd I do?...See Moreliving room thoughts
Comments (32)I'd try a few tweaks of your new arrangement. move the entry blocking chair close in to sofa, try it angled and straight. Either might work, depends on what you like. The green console would go centered on the wall across from the sofa with that chair also moved in closer to sofa. That should allow for a small coffeetable. (probably i'd choose a round) or try both chairs straight as below but, in your space, in front of the window or chairs facing each other on opposite sides of sofa In all cases, probably the best spot for the green table is on the wall opposite the sofa. Great spaces, especially small ones, can take a bit of time to get right. Get the furniture arranged first then worry about the accessories and decor....See MoreHelp! Thoughts about what you'd do with this living room layout?
Comments (13)Thanks for all the great comments and help. I really appreciate it. I agree with your comments about the furniture being too big. I asked the salesperson about this specifically with the sofa just squeezing in on the one wall and he said it needs to be that big to balance the fireplace. I guess I shouldn't have listened! I only have the option to return/exchange the chair and a half. Because the sofa came earlier, the window on it has passed. Susan - I've moved the sofa over to the long wall. Misecretary, I tried taking pictures from outside the room, but I couldn't get a good angle, so I shot a (very poor) video instead. It shows the reversed sofa/chair and a half placement. In this arrangement, the tv would be mounted on the wall beside it. The other option is to move the sofa back to the smaller space and angle a chair in the opposite corner with the tv in it's current position. https://youtu.be/gcf6x9SxUlE Thanks again!...See MoreThoughts on 4 chairs in the living room
Comments (38)Our living room is not used nearly as often as the family room. More recently, I find myself using the room for a nice get away from the TV that's in the family room. When we entertain, it is often just one couple for dinner, so 4 chairs would be ideal for that. When family is over, there are 8 of us and we just grab chairs from the dining room. With that said, tho, I am reconsidering keeping a sofa in the room!!!! I kind of like the way it defines the entry. I have not been out yet to start looking at furniture (well, except for on line). The thing is, if I do keep a sofa in there, I think I'd want something a little more streamlined. The arms on this sofa are fairly large! The option then might be to get a new sofa and then recover the existing chairs (without a skirt this time). It takes me FOREVER to make a decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After all the thoughts from everyone, I can see either 4 chairs or sofa and 2 chairs working in the room. Any more advice??????????????...See Morebtaylor636
