I'm having second thoughts about the kitchen/living room design
Comments (46)Marti- I vote for the half wall, messy kitchen or not! If you leave the solid wall, you still can't see the fireplace and you're walking over to the doorway, to talk to anyone in that room. Yes, you will be open to the dining area...but you already have a long, narrow space there (no peninsula, right?) so the half wall would open up the kitchen to the fireplace room, making that space feel wider and larger. What's opposite the open area, on the other side of the kitchen? That's all you'd see, as you walk in. Maybe you could change a few of the uppers, on that wall. All you have to do is get new doors, or even cut out areas, in the existing doors and add glass, chicken wire, fabric, a combination of both, etc. It might be nice and it would give you a little color or sparkle, in the kitchen area. Just a thought :)...See MoreLiving Room Furniture Layout - Need Help Please!
Comments (7)les917 - the answers are no and no. No TV, and we cannot (and I don't think want to) move the fireplace. nanny2a - thanks, you are totally right. The coffee table is shown slightly in the wrong spot. I envision it being a coffee table sitting in front of the large sectional (hence wanting it to be the length it is). It will not be sitting in the center of the room like shown. Does anyone see any concern about clearance between the chaise and the fireplace (where one would walk to go from center of living room into the dining room). What kind of clearance do you think is needed/what is the max length and width I could get away with for a chaise/daybed in that area? And does anyone see an issue with the fireplace sitting in the middle of the room, and nothing really being oriented towards it? That is one of my primary concerns with the layout I've put together......See MoreRecessed Lighting for Living Room (need help on layout)

Comments (17)'There are too many pipes in that wall .. so the tv cannot be moved there without damaging the infrastructure. " Your statement sounds like you are repeating something that someone said to you who doesn't exactly understand home systems and construction. You already have electric in that wall based on the fact there is an electrical sconce. You already have cable since your TV over the fireplace is activated. So a coaxial cable has to be fished through the wall which can easily be done by a professional if there is no one in the house up to the task. Don't complain that you cannot find a solution when one is presented to you that is viable....See MoreAlison M
