So sad, she was a strong lady and an entertainer of legends!

I was also unaware of her serious health problems, but I have followed her career since the mid 1960s and always loved her.

It bothers me that the news articles call her "Turner" instead of Tina, as Turner reminds me of Ike and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Other female singers are known by their first names, such as Aretha, Cher, Madonna, etc. I think Tina deserves full rights to the name Tina, and that's how I want to remember her.

Always admired Tina and loved her music. Rest easy, Tina.

I saw that a little earlier and it makes me sad. For as wonderful as she looked, I didn't know she'd had ongoing health issues. Such a strong woman, with such a strong voice. And legs. I couldn't have danced in her height heels at half her age. I didn't care a lot about her younger music but she did impress me as a mature woman with her energy.

She was a phenomenon. We used to take the kids everywhere when they were young-no babysitting grandmas-and we felt that they needed to experience great music icons. We saw Tina in concert, and to give you an idea of how long ago this was, Cyndi Lauper opened for her and was pregnant at the time. I even went to one of her concerts when she and Ike were still together and touring. That was when I was in high school. A one in a gazillion performer, who had the audience in the palm of her hand! RIP

Gonna miss her....what a huge talent the world has lost.

I knew she was in poor health. I think maybe 60 Minutes did a thing on her. What a legend. She was feisty and so talented up to the end.

I just read on the local news. Sad but glad she found happiness later in her life.

A date and I were going to see the Ike and Tina Turner Review in Memphis on November 22, 1963. The show was cancelled.

So sad...she had an extraordinary level of energy to go along with acres of talent. RIP Tina.

This really makes me sad. She was such an entertainer an I loved to watch her work and sing. She never lost her energy. I saw a TV special about her maybe about a year ago (?) and it was great. I didn't know she had lingering health issues.

Lars, I just watched ABC News where Tina's death was talked about. They showed an interview she gave where she talked about her name. She said her name is Tina Turner and that she fought to keep it. They showed a snippet of a lawsuit she'd filed against Ike to be able to use and retain the rights to her name. So she was fine going by her full name. I never thought of her along with the one name celebrities - Cher, Madonna, etc. She has does have full rights to her name because she sued to get it.

I had little knowledge of her family situation...no idea that she had 2 sons, both of whom predeceased her. Such heart break.

I am so glad that she found happiness and success after Ike Turner.

How fitting that today everybody knows her music, while it's, "Ike who?"

True, she was more successful and a special and unique talent but it wasn't necessarily a challenge for her to outdo him. Ike Turner was emotionally troubled and had mental health and drug addiction issues as well. Years of addiction, time spent in jail, and he ultimately died of an overdose. She was flamboyant and outgoing and he had a shy and quiet personality. One a healthy ingredient for success in the public eye and the second, the opposite.

Edit to add - she had the bravery to escape a domestic abuse situation, move to Europe, and find happiness and sucess. These too were major accomplishments not to be overlooked or understated.
