cyn, I just looked it up--the house last sold in 1996. Which would explain the current decor. The previous must have left it when they moved.

I purchased an unfinished dollhouse for DD2 when she was +/-5yo at a consignment shop. I had the best time painting the interior, adding a wooden shingle roof and my BFF painted the exterior. I don't think I ever took a photo, but will try to find. DD2 did not want to keep it when we moved to our last house, so she sold, which was fine with me.

What a great find and a wonderful idea to see if the library would like it. Somehow I only find broken lawnmowers on the curb.

When I was a young girl our children's library would display a 1930ish dollhouse a couple of times a year. It was hand built, upholstered furniture, even a tiny roll of toilet paper. My dollhouse was one of those tin lithos with molded plastic furniture. They are actually valuable now, but at the time I dreamed of having something more realistic. I would spend forever staring at the library dollhouse. Those memories inspire me to donate one to a childrens library.

That is a wonderful find, teeda! How fortunate that you spotted it and rescued it. Donating to the children's library is a terrific idea especially since it is a piece of your town's history. I find it quite sad that the original owners and/or the current owners did not want it nor did they seem to appreciate the treasure they had.

The 1930's bathroom you shared reminds me so much of the bathroom in our house which was built in 1925. I believe the toilet was the original and I swear when it flushed it used about 20 gallons of water! We have since remodeled the bathroom as it was in pretty rough shape, but we were able to salvage and use a few things such as the original medicine cabinet.

Wow!!! Love that!!! Many years ago, I donated a few an outgrown train set to a small local store that catered to women with children. They put it in a corner and everyone loved it since it kept the kids busy. If your other options don't work, maybe that will.

That is a great idea Bestyears! I don't think children could play with this dollhouse though, as it probably has lead paint. I would have loved to shop somewhere that had a train set nearby when my son was young!

Dawn, the bathroom fixtures in the photo are vintage Strombecker toys, and I believe they were introduced in the mid 30s. So glad to hear you have that style in your 1920s home. The house I'm working on is actually more of a 1910s-20s style, but I figure they could have updated over the years and put in a 30s bathroom, lol.

I don't get why the owners just wouldn't stick it in an attic and leave it to be discovered by the next people. My dad designed my childhood home and built a balsa wood model of it. You know that was 1960's CAD! I have it and have thought about taking it to the house but it would make me mad if it was thrown away. (But I wouldn't know that)

I'm actually trying to track down the original owner's children. Would be thrilled to give it to them or their offspring. No luck so far.

What an amazing find -- I'm so glad you went back to check it out and rescue it! My grandmother built a dollhouse for my younger sister. Actually, it was a castle in style, with turrets and a drawbridge, but traditional rooms inside, complete with working lights and chandeliers. We both played with it and I think I loved it more than she did. It left me wanting to have and decorate my own dollhouse, but I never did. Had two boys and no grandkids so far, so.... Well, I did make a dollhouse out of a jewelry box. The bed was a fabric covered penny and the doll was self made -- something akin to a worry doll. I think it would be amazing to have a miniature of your actual home. Even if you "fix" a couple of things.

In total agreement that the homeowner should have stashed it in the attic to be rediscovered. That's just an amazing little house. Now it's found it's new owner!

@teeda I have looked for the model of our house and I can't find it! My dad was a packaging engineer so he made a corrugated box especially for it. I will open a closet sometime and the darn thing will be sitting in there!
