Look what I just found! I am ecstatic!!!

I went to a local nursery that I seldom visited this evening, because they were having a 50% off sale for all of their shrubs and trees. I had little expectation, until I spotted a beautiful paniculata that had strong, striking red stems, lush green leaves and multiple buds at the top. Then I realized that it was a Pinky Winky in a 3 gallon pot! It was their last one so I immediately snapped that baby up before you could say, "MINE"!!! LOL! Anyway, here it is:

Isn't she a beauty!? I am so happy! When the weather is a bit cooler, I am going to put her in the ground, probably in early September.

Now, I just need to find myself a Quick Fire... :-)

Well, I don't live in your area, but Rosette Delizy and General Gallieni are not huge roses here. I've heard rumors that Rosette Delizy can get very large in your area if left to her own devices. Mons. Tillier and Clementina are sprawly things here. I keep the height and width of Clementina and Mons Tillier pruned back somewhat and they don't seem to mind. My Rosette Delizy has never gotten large enough to need much pruning. RD is very healthy here, just not very large. I have all of these Teas and love them. Hoovb is growing Clementina and I think Luanne may have all of these in her garden in California. Carol

That's something I miss about living in a warmer climate. I didn't have iguanas, but the little chameleons and tree frogs were everywhere and they're just adorable. I guess I am not a neat gardener; when I deadhead, I just let em fall where they may. The best thing I ever bought for myself was the large garden cart that attaches to the riding mower. I keep either a bucket or something else in it for smaller tools or seed packets. Long-handled tools fit in it and then I use the bare space remaining for clippings or plants I have pulled. I have a pretty large space to get around and was walking myself to death just to get different tools as I needed them. Now, I just load the cart before I start. That is a neat apron though and I do wear a gardening apron when I have one. I had two made from canvas but wore them out. The tool belt is a neat idea. One is laying on the work bench right now. The other day coming out of the garden with produce in my pulled up apron, I thought of my Grandmother. That is how she fed her chickens, held shelled corn in her apron and tossed it out on the ground to them. If I don't have on an apron, I use my shirt too, if I know it will be a heavy haul of stuff, I have a dishpan that I use.

I finally got to read your whole post. I bet you are feeling like tearing your hair out because she sure doesn't seem to value your time or that you have other things to do. I am so sorry. My dad will be 91 in July and had hip/femur surgery in November and, sadly, it just hasn't healed. The next step is a partial hip replacement with a titanium rod inserted in the femur. What I have noticed is that on the days he has pain he can't seem to hand me his lunch or dinner plate or mail in order for me to clean up. I think it is a mental decision that they can't do the simplest of things. I think contacting any senior centers or any senior programs available through government services might be a great start. There are organizations that will take your mom grocery shopping or to appointments if they are fairly local. Some charge, some take donations and some are totally free. Many grocery stores have online ordering and will deliver to her home for a fee. That could be a lifesaver for sure. Do insist on being in charge of her calendar or you won't be able to attend or drive. She cannot make decisions for you when you are the ride. Let us know what you have decided to do and know that we all support you and most have gone through (or are going through) similar situations. The is a great place to vent! Robyn

Very nicely grown plant. Even me (who already spend the whole 2007 gardening budget) would of bought it in an eyeblink.

Boy am I jealous! Last Fall I bought a Pinky Winky from Parks seeds, it was expensive. When it came in a small 4" pot I was disappointed. This year it has made nice foliage but no flowers. I would love to see yours when they blooms and start to turn pink.
Would you send me a picture when they do?

Thank you everyone! I surely will post a pic when it blooms and start to turn pink! I can't wait to see these supposedly dual color panicles!

BTW, since I bought this unexpectedly, I will need to completely re-think my paniculata flower bed and move my Sambucus Black Lace and Little Lamb to make room for this beauty! Is it OK to transplant them in September, or should I wait until the spring?

Wow, what a find. Will visit this site in hopes of seeing bloom pictures when you post. Love the red color of the stems. How big does this one get?

Oh Ostrich I thought FOR SURE you scored a QuickFire. lol Yoor PW is beautiful!! Congrats! Isn't that always the way? You find something awesome and have to rethink everything. Oh well. It'll be fun!

I think Sept is a great time to plant.
