Look at the Beautiful Creature I just found in my garden-

I was just walking around looking at the blooms and deciding what should i do this evening.

One of my oleanders are in bloom and i grabbed a branch to pull it closer to smell the flowers, then i felt something touch my fingers, it felt like a grasshopper's legs. I looked down and there it was a baby Iguana. I love to see wildlife in my garden (except snakes) and i left him there to do his/her thing!

What is it. It looks kind of like a chameleon except for the tail. You must have all kinds of lizards there. Your fur baby looks like he's disgusted with business management. lol I like the red amaryllis with the kind of ragged petals, very different.

Is THAT what a Gladiola looks like?? I am SO EXCITED. I have some in the front garden someone gave me 2 years ago for weeding their garden and they did not bloom last year, I am hoping this year. No idea on the color, and the leaves are bigger than the one pictured, so I think you pegged it about being a miniature Thank you Joe.

Rita, I always kill a few in the spring and early summer but mostly, they are young ones. I think though, that where theres smoke there's fire. Mama snake has to be around someplace. Chris, for a few years, I thought the babies were earthworms until I finally noticed how they crawl. I saved one I had killed and had it identified. I don't need to tell you that I look for and expect to see them here. I found a 3 foot rat snake in the middle of my back yard a couple of days ago but let him go because of his diet. I hate all snakes though.. Kay, don't you ever see them in your area? I think that the best snakes are the dead ones!! Squirelly Pete! I have a long fron porch and have gates at the bannister to keep critters off but I am surrounded by woods and there's lots of wild life. Some are not nice. There have been black bears seen very close by and I try to be aware of my surroundings anytime I am outside. We have tons of dogs ( my husband hunts) both beagles and tree hounds and the noise they make help to keep the critters at bay. I suppose they don't know ( critters) that the dogs are on chains.. So lovely. I know we could have a garden like that if my dh could bring himself to use a tiller as a cultivator. But he won't. Only tills during the winter, then it's pull weeds and mulch so we won't kill earthworms and of course we never get rid of all the weeds that way. We harvest a lot of veggies though and that's the point of gardening.

TG, A kookaburra is a type of knigfisher. The blue kingfishers look like kookas but are much smaller, 15-20cms and a beautiful electric blue (best way to describe it) colour. You would know it if you saw it. There are other varieties but they are the most common. The blue winged kookas have a pale blue where MMs is white on the wing. Blue winged are generally found on the eastern coast, usually in the northern parts. When I was a child in Brisbane, we raised a blue wing when it fell out of a nest. We never locked it up so used to come and go for many years.

LOL its a baby IGUANA!! Yep Theresa the iguanas do get quite large. i have seen a few that were around 5feet long... that is with the tail. This is acutally the first iguana that i have encountered in my garden.

Yep my fur baby Romeo is so playful, he's just over 1 year old and very very active.

Cute little guy to eat bugs for you, Where's Waldo? LOL Are your Amaryllis blooming now? What is the pretty one 2nd from last? Mine are all dormant until Dec - Feb.

Hi Linda, yes the amaryllis are blooming now, its always warm here lol.im not sure of the name of that one :/

What fun picture. I don't think I've ever seen a baby Iquana. Maybe it will stay around as another pet for you.

Beautiful amaryllis, ours bloom in the spring.

I had never seen a baby Iguana...sure is cute! Your Romeo is very adorable. I like your amaryllis...very pretty! Best of luck on your exams!

Will he grow spikes as he ages? I've never seen an iguana w/o the spikes. Are your iguanas herbivores or insectivores?

He was hard to see, but so cute! I love your puppy too!

Karyn yes he will grow spikes, they were tiny on him, you couldnt see them, in the pic but i saw them.

Ok so i just went outside to check and the baby iguana is still there. Im trying to avoid that area because i dont want to startle him. I hopw he's ok though, because he isnt acutally eating any plants. hmmm

Yes, where is Waldo, LOL! You can barely make out the iguana in the first pictures. If I felt anything touch my hand, I would have jumped five feet back -- did you? Your flowers/plants and doggy are great!

Your fur baby looks much happier not hitting the books. lol I wish we had lizards around here. All we have is one variety of skinks and they are almost never seen. We do have a fair share of amphibians but they aren't nearly as cool as reptiles.

Great pictures!
We have had a few iguanas. One was very large that we rescued from the side of the road. Not an everyday occurence in Texas!
How wonderful to live in a place where they just wander about in your garden!
I remember seeing them all over the place in St. Martin.

oh that is very cool! an iguanna in the garden!!! (I could use one of those) they eat bugs no? He is a very handsom fella! and the flowers are beautiful too!

That's something I miss about living in a warmer climate. I didn't have iguanas, but the little chameleons and tree frogs were everywhere and they're just adorable. You live in such an ideal climate for all these tropicals we struggle with up north. While we're freezing you'll be sure to post more beautiful photos of your green growing things to encourage us?
