Me: twice, almost exactly a year apart. Same with DH (I got it from him or vice versa).

My 26 year old daughter, fully vaxxed and double boosted, got it twice a year apart. FWIW she was a barista last year and now is a kindergarten teacher- so has plenty of exposure! In both work situations she wore/wears a mask.

My 37 year old daughter along with her 6 month and 2.5 year old all currently have Covid. This is the first time for the baby (other than being exposed in utero) and the third time for both DD and the toddler. It seems to recur in a 6-12 month period for them. Relatively mild for all three right now, but my grandchildren can't go to daycare so SIL is taking more time off work to be with kids while DD works from home. Between RSV, strep and Covid they can't seem to get a break.

Oh, Teeda, they must be so frustrated with the recurring infections. I honestly don’t know how any parents are able to work between Covid and all the regular childhood illnesses. We are happy to help out woth our DD’s family when one is sick but must take on the healthy kid because of DH’s immune issues. By incredible luck (and diligent testing before gatherings) neither DH nor I has contracted Covid—-either that or we’ve had such slight infections we didn’t notice, which I think is unlikely in his case. I have a couple of friends who have had it three times and each case has been progressively minor. I don’t know if that is a common experience or not.

Thanks, Kswl. It is so awful. Seems like they don't go more than 3-4 weeks without illness. Fortunately they both have the ability to work from home and have supportive employers, but the stress and juggling required are exhausting. They are basically just existing at this point. We try to help as much as possible, but my daughter worries about exposing us to things as I'm involved in the care of my elderly parents and my mother refuses any more Covid boosters.

Like you and your DH, we have never had Covid either! I think we're probably the only members of our extended family who haven't had it.

I agree, that parenting in these times is not easy. And grandparenting as well!

Teeda, exactly— someone is sick about every three to four weeks! The two year old brings it home from daycare and gives it to the rest of then, and DD and SIL stay sicker longer than the kids. And they are all in very good health generally. The baby goes into daycare in a few weeks and I am dreading it. We don’t want to pass anything along to my 90 year old mother either. I wish we could help more than we do. In their field it’s not feasible to take several years off work at this stage of their careers without drastically altering their professional trajectories.

Thanks Kswl. I'm so sorry to hear that your DD's family is experiencing the same thing--but knowing that this is not atypical is helpful. I began worrying that there might be something wrong with the two year olds immune system, although my daughter tells me this is sadly common.

I hear your fears about the baby starting daycare. Ours started in April. And now he has Covid. ugh.

They did discuss moving the kids to a home daycare but both parents feel they would be too worried about the lack of oversight. Their current daycare center is highly rated and the staff seem great. But more kids present equals more exposure to everything. No easy answers.

Like KSWL mentioned, we have to be careful because my DH has a serious lung condition. Neither of us ever got Covid until I began to travel. Of course, I have to segregate myself from my husband before returning to the house when I do travel, whether I know I have it or not, until I'm certain. In October, I traveled by plane to NY and caught it while there. In February, I traveled by plane to Italy, and caught it there. I've been very careful but also a bit lucky I'm sure, to have never caught it here in Texas, although pretty much eveyone I know has. It's a bit of a break for me to have these windows of natural immunity for a time, knowing that I can't go out and get it and bring it back to DH. I was hoping that window was six months, but clearly, for me, it was only four months. I'm coming up on the closing of the four-month window from my February case, so back to well-fitting KN95s I guess.

I think it's really a gamble who gets Covid and who doesn't. I know people who were extremely careful, had all the vaccines, and have had covid. On the other hand, I know people who weren't so careful and they haven't had it! My husband and myself have had all the shots and we were cautious, but went about living life. I did start ordering groceries (seems like stores are a good place for germs) and our church stopped meeting for a six week period when things were at their worst. We wore masks when going out, but we continued going to restaurants, etc., we were just careful about where/when we went. I'm so thankful neither of us have had it - so far! We no longer wear masks and it's not often we hear of someone in our area with Covid. I do think our little area wasn't hit as hard as some. I also assume that because I am retired and my husband has his own business - that probably helped us.

Tina Marie -I read about a study done recently in Canada (sorry, I can't find it again). All the participants claimed they had never had Covid, but well over 50% did (maybe 65%). They were shocked. In October, I had zero symptoms. I only knew I had it because I always test for a few days before coming back into my house since my DH is so high risk. I took five positive tests, so I know I had it. But I literally didn't have one symptom. It's certainly possible you and DH have escaped it, but it is also possible you had it with no symptoms.

DD had it in Jan. 2022 with zero symptoms. She would never have known unless she was tested (they had to test routinely during her sports season). Her BF also had a routine test a few weeks ago, tested positive, zero symptoms. I think there are probably thousands of people who have had it and didn’t know.

OTOH, when I had it a few months ago, I was sick. I had all the usual symptoms. DH tested positive so I knew I had it, but it took 4 tests over the course of a week for me to finally test positive. Some people would have taken one negative test and assumed they just had a bad cold.

Bestyears, I'm glad you brought this up because I rarely watch the news and I haven't heard about anyone I know that's had Covid recently. When DH had it I got up a couple of times during the night because he had a high fever, and I'd sleepily take his temp and use the oximeter on him, pop tylenol in his mouth then go back to bed. I stopped taking precautions because the germs had to be all over the house. And of course I got it 3 weeks later, plus the embarrassing kidney stone which sent me to the ER.

When dh came down with symptoms I searched everywhere for the tests we got from the government and couldn't find them. DS got a test for him and it was positive.

Last week I was tryhing to find something in the junk drawer and down at the bottom were the tests. Now why in the world did I put them there? Anyway, they got chunked because they'd expired.

Best, that could be true. If either of us have had it, we did not have symptoms. I do think us not being in groups of people often may have been of benefit. One of my best friends has had a kidney transplant (20+ years ago). Her dr. was adamant about what she could/couldn't do. Her husband (since retired) got covid from a coworker. My friend did not want to move out of the house and leave him alone so he moved upstairs. She left his meals on the stairs LOL. When they did both go in the living room, they were masked. She never got covid - even to this day. I am so thankful! We did have two church friends pass away from Covid, sadly, and the son of a friend. BTW, others here mentioned they and their spouses have not had Covid, so who knows?

I had Covid last May and again at Christmas. I had both vax shots and a booster well before that first infection in May. It wasn’t bad, I only felt really yucky one day. i didn’t test positive the first day I felt bad, but did test positive two days later. When I got it at Christmas I was BARELY sick…I honestly don’t know why I took a test.
