Pergo Vintage Home vs. Engineered Wood
Comments (3)We installed 3300 square feet about three years ago. The floor had to be removed by a Pergo authorized installer because the floor began to lift and seperate at the corners after one year. We had our original floor installer file a warranty claim. A Pergo authorized inspector came out and did find a manafacturing flaw with the floor, lucky for us....and we had a new floor installed, free of charge. (Well I had to move all of our furniture, but we felt that Pergo backed their product.) We opted for the Pergo Select on the second install, which does not have the "real" surface, but it is much more durable with two young boys. The AC rating is 5 on the select, and I think the Vintage Home is a 3. I guess the inspector did find some small installation issues, with the original installer, but not big enough to destroy the entire floor both upstairs and downstairs. We found the Vintage Home Product to be a little soft. My six year dragged a full laundry basket on it a week after we moved in, and there was a faint 20 foot scratch that would not come out. With the Pergo Select, we can just about crush aluminum cans on it....ha ha! We never really tried, but we have accidently dropped pans and there were no visible marks....See MoreVintage furniture - Take Two
Comments (13)I used to cringe over painted wood...then I moved into a cottage. Now...I paint everything, lol. I really enjoy a technique I call "dry brushing", and you can use regular latex paint to do it. Basically...you use VERY little paint, and allow the wood below to come through in places. It looks like worn paint in a way. I need to take pics, but I just finished 4 OLD shutters that will be closet doors in this technique, then coated them in tongue oil (they were really dry), then used milkpaint clear coat on them to seal them. This was before the oil and clearcoat, showing one before paint and one after: A before and after of a table I did that way: a closeup I also love milk paint, although I'd clear coat it or wax it on furniture that might have a glass set on it, or something that might stain. I have a few videos of dry brushing on my blog post linked below. Here is a link that might be useful: blog post...See MoreRalph Lauren furniture by EJ Victor vs RL furniture by Henredon
Comments (1)You will have no luck with anything , unless you go back to whatever brick and mortar you made the purchase. A bench cushion is always harder to maintain, even with a spring down cushion. But there ARE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY in spring down cushions as well. . We have no idea what the fabric content is on the "velvet" ........and seems you are seeing a smile line at seam joins. Velvet is a tufted woven fabric, and can be made from many fibers, cotton, polyester, silk. I haven't used any EJ Victor in eons, nor Henredon. But I will say that at one time Henredon was quality. That is loooooong gone and many moons ago. Like twenty five years. Today, Henredon is still not up and running following bankruptcy filing by Heritage group . Henredon was split off, along with Thomasville. The more major point is the American furniture industry has struggled. Regulations, rules, , competition from junk imports, a throw away society who wants a sofa in a week for a grand, and a million other reasons. Including a resistance to pay for quality and what it costs to PRODUCE that quality in these United States....See MorePlease tell me your experience with Chairish/1st Dibbs
Comments (43)As a small gallery owner and a new vetted seller of vintage period fine art paintings on 1st Dibs let me add a note. Buying retail invariably includes a high markup. Buying antique and vintage items has a markup and carries additional risk, especially buying online. I know for every ten purchases in my niche market there WILL be one that is a problem, and there may be one that is a blessing. Both had markups paid, shipping costs, insurance paid, business expenses, gallery expenses, inventory and installation costs; loads of time spent, risks taken and specialty knowledge/research involved. Then there are restoration/repairs as needed factored into pricing. and the cost to get that wonderful unique work of art visible to you, the buyer. if you look only at the estate sale price paid before commission then the price on 1st Dibs may seem quite high. But so much more is in that price, and in the value of an artist and genre of art at any particular time. The beauty of 1st Dibs is finding that one of a kind object, that sought for artist, that is actually available for sale right now. It cannot be simply replaced. 1st Dibs offers some security providing payment, shipping cost with insurance, and written return policy. You can always make an offer too, just like being in the gallery. Try that buying retail. As with anything, if you find that perfect one of a kind piece, that artist whose work you love, that painting that just fits that space, the price is what seller and buyer agree in that moment....See More- last year
