I'm in the same boat as far as what used to work, doesn't. I am always leary of ordering this type of thing online, due to the colour matching. I've been tempted to try the Perbel that is all over the internet but haven't pulled the trigger yet so it's nice to hear a recommendation. My issue is that my skin tone is basically "transparent!"

I use Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. Goes on smoothly.

For skincare, I use Emogene & Co. Glow Vitamin C serum and Refine eye serum with Revitalize Facial Oil in the mornings. At bedtime, it is Prime Niacinamide facial serum, Refine eye serum, and Revitalize Facial Oil. When I re-order facial oil, I going to try their new Recovery Facial Oil.

I cleanse my face with Cetaphil cleanser and use a hyaluronic moisturizer after the facial oil. Currently I am using Shiseido Urban Environment Oil Free Mineral Sunscreen SPF 42

Laura M tinted moisturizer was my go-to for a long time until it wasn’t. I finally found this, and love it, but recent reviews of the new formula are not great (I haven’t tried it) so I bought all the originals I could find. I only have one tube left so maybe I’ll try yours next!

My everyday go-to is Paula's Choice Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30. I'm very pale and the color is perfect for my skin tone. It has a mineral sunscreen, but is sheer and works well as a primer, although I usually just wear it on its own.

Nekotish, same! Trying to select a makeup shade online is a gamble. Occasionally I have ordered two shades hoping one would work, and when it didn’t I mixed them, which is a whole lot of trouble I didn’t need 🙄

BBstx I have friends who use LM and have seen quite a few recs for it right here. I should have reordered but the hassle of sending stuff back has made me a one and done customer as far as problems with products are concerned.

I also used to use Cetaphil until my skin became so dry. Now I use micellar water.

Bookwoman, I used a Paula’s choice cream years ago and now don’t remember why I switched to something else. Like shampoos, I think it helps to change up your products and routines every now and again unless you're completely happy with the condition of your skin (in my case, unlikely!).

I have been using NARS tinted moisturizer for several years and it works well for me. For days that I want a better coverage foundation, a few days ago I bought the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation. The color match was perfection for me, and so far it seems to be playing nicely with my skin. I also bought the Dior concealer and I like it.

I have shied away from Dior foundation SAS95 bc it is just so darned expensive. But at this point i am paying $42 for tinted sunscreen 🙁 so I checked the most negative reviews of Forever Skin Glow (1 and 2 ⭐️) they all mention DRY or AGING skin, my top two problems. I need to make an appointments with an esthetician and find out from an expert exactly what products will work for me, I guess. In the meantime I’m glad to have the sunscreen for summer, as I am outside a lot.

I use the LM tinted oil free mosturizer with sunscreen and really like it. It looks thick as it goes on but sets to a nice sheer coverage. Instead of applying it like a standard foundation, I rub it on/in like a lotion and wait about five minutes for it to set before anything else.

If you want a lot less expensive foundation, Wet n Wild Photofocus foundation is being hailed all over IG and YouTube as the best thing since sliced bread. It comes in a matte finish and in a dewy finish. The dewy finish is compared favorably to Chanel’s SUBLIMAGE L’ESSENCE DE TEINT.

The Wet n Wild is ~$5 and the Chanel is ~$150. For that price, I’d give the Wet n Wild a try, if I wore foundation, which I probably ought to but don’t.

I just watched that video BBstx. And I think the Wet and Wild side of her face looks better. 😲 Of course we won’t know what it looks like in an hour or five hours.

I’m still on the hunt for a product that combines moisturizer, tint and SPF with the coverage of a foundation. I did make an appointment at the dermatologist with the esthetician and will be interested to hear her recs.

It’s not new, I’ve been using it for years. My skin is dry, so I usually wear another moisturizer first.

Kswl, did you use the Revision matte or regular? I still use it (regular formula) and found the matte very dry the one time i tried a sample. Now that i am older I have had to ramp up my skin care base though. I use Bobbi Brown Vitamin E Face Base moisturizer and Skinceuticals serum under it all. To add a little finish I use a sheer pressed powder (LM Candleglow Sheer) although I just found out it has been discontinued. Blah!

I too tried the LM tinted moisturizer several years ago and did not like it. Too drying for me.

I also have been using the Jones Road face pencils, especially around the wrinkles near the mouth area. Seems to make a difference. I also like their Miracle Balm which you can use as as just a blush for some color.

The Dior Forever Skin Glow is a little too mask-like for me, plus in the warm tones, they seem to skip from fair to dark with no in-between. I bought 3W because 2W was ghost-like on me. I mix the tinted mineral sunscreen (Bliss, from Target) with it to dilute it. I am 64, have been in the sun every single day of my life, and never worn Sunscreen, because I am allergic.

Outside, I also progressed from the matte to regular Revision, but over time it was just too dry. I use a hyaluronic night cream and a serum in the am before anything goes on my skin, and a vitamin C prep under my eyes. Fifteen years ago I used few skincare products and virtually no makeup. There was a drastic change around age 50 to 51 with dryness, brown spots from old sun damage and rosacea (which is completely controlled with low dose doxycycline). I clearly was not paying enough attention to prevention in my younger days ☹️

Tried expensive down to drugstore brands. Not sure what really works anymore. Just bought Naturium products (skincare) at Target to try. Vitamin C and others. Not sure yet.

I've been a total convert to Laura Mercier primer, and then I came across some Chanel Teint Naturel in my stash and I remembered why I used to like it. I may buy more, esp for evening.

I've been using DRMTGLY tinted moisturizing sunscreen for a couple years. It's one of the very few that doesn't have me washing the sunscreen off my face 10 mins after application. I must have 30+ rejects in the house. It has a light coverage. Not quite foundation, but it can be 'enough' for some. I use moisturizer under it as I have dry skin. Some people use only this. It's a little tacky to the touch ime, but I tolerate that as my eyes don't burn with it.

I was in a rush this morning to an appt far away this morning. Quickly applied it, no other make up and out the door. No one gasped when they saw me today lol. In my book, that's 'enough' coverage. I haven't managed to get sunburned with this either.

It's really hard to find The One. Hope you find it!

eta: I bought the LM tinted moisturizer w/ sunscreen a while back. It was stand out terrible on me. Gave to my dd and she's a supermodel when she has it on. What works for one, might not work for another...

I didn't do well with the Dior Forever either.. but I got the matte. I couldn't get a good color match for my medium tone skin and it seemed to emphasize my pores rather than hide them. Thankfully I was able to get my beloved Chanel Velvet Lumiere .. it was not available for 6-8 months but it is back. Nothing works as well for me. It's light, a great color match and it seems to blur out many of my imperfections.

I wanted to buy a Chanel Les Beiges coverup and was told they were out, company wide. That was about two weeks ago. I was so bummed. Bought something in a stick from Bobbi Brown instead and am pleased enough.

I finally bought an heated eyelash curler and I love it!! My lashes are long and thick but they've become impossible to keep curled. I have to immediately put mascara on to keep the hold.

What I did to ensure a good curl, I used my regular eyelash curler and then the heated one on high heat, then the regular curler once more at the tips. I was going somewher and needed to look nice. :)

Interesting, Mdln……I have a tinted serum from a French company, Typology, that is essentially the same thing. It’s a nice product but not enough coverage and no spf, so it still needs another layer.

Just to throw this out, for those that have a face makeup that isn't going on very nicely, some foundations do better with certain application methods, such as one foundation may do best with a beauty blender type sponge, some do best with a foundation brush and others work best with just your fingers. If one method is a failure, try a different methods. Seems lots of products these days are gears toward using the beauty blender type of sponge. Anyway, just a thought before you give up on a product. I have some foundations that will only go on smoothly if I use the damp sponge.

Arkansas girl, I bought one of those sponges a long time ago and I didn't do a good job, but I may get another one.

Shaving peach fuzz off your face makes makeup go on much smoother.

I always use a Beauty Blender-after putting on foundation with my fingers. I have a smaller skinnier one for under my eyes after I dot on my concealer.

I use Charlotte Tilbury miracle cream under my makeup. I can tell a big difference if I don't use it. I also make sure my face is exfoliated-very important IMO.

Makeup of choice for me right now for going out to dinner, lunch dates, etc is still the Thrive Blendable Blur CC Cream. It doesn't sound fancy, but it is the best I've tried and good coverage for my age skin. Again, the Charlotte Tilbury Miracle Cream. I mix two colors together to get my perfect shade-I've used for about three years now. I've bought the Dior and it is too much coverage for me. For everyday, I use the Jones Road "What the Foundation" (and the miracle balms) - which people either love or hate.

A foundation brush was life-changing for me LOL. I am one who does not like alot of make-up, natural looking but concentrating on my eyes. With my coloring, a bright lipstick looks best but I tone it down using lipstain, either alone or with gloss over it. I spend alot of time outside, and sunscreen year round is a must. Around the house I usually only do a bit of mascara and a tad of powder over the sunscreen. I use Seint make-up - a blogger actually got me interested in it. It's a cream and you can get very light coverage or it is buildable if you want/need more coverage. I also use one of their contour colors (if needed) for the occasional redness around my nose. IPL hair removal treatment is great. (If you have dark hair)

Arkansas and Tina M, I’ve got the sponges and the brush and I also use fingers to pat when needed. You’re both so right that the texture of one’s skin and the consistency of the product determine which application method is best.

It seems this has become more foundation oriented but I recently tried La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer with spf 30. I get it at CVS and somehow it seems better than most. It's absorbed easily and doesn't irritate.

For foundation, a friend was having a beautycounter "party" so I bought some foundation. I do like it a lot, but I only wear foundation rarely. The friend is very very into clean and organic and all that and she raved about the foundation. I think it's good but I am not sure I see it.

I ordered the $5 foundation on A, and today is my first day to try it. I like the way it went on, it's lighter feeling than my current foundation (which is a plus) and much more inexpensive. I use a damp blender sponge to apply my foundation. I will update after I try it for a few days.

A couple of new products that I have bought and liked: Paula's Choice Vitamin C Serum (I use 3-4 drops mixed with moisturizers) and Super Goop Unseen Sunscreen (I bought a tiny travel size one to try at my spa and I love it).

One thing I need is a different facial oil. My esthetician recommended the Osea one and I bought it, but the scent is offputting to me. I should have taken it back, but am using it up until I find something else. Please post any recommendations.

I still use Cosmedix products for all of my skin care. I really like them even though they are pricey. I get lots of compliments on my skin, but I attribute it to genetics and sunscreen, not to products.

@texanjana, I use the facial oil from Emogene & Co. Female owned and operated company, all natural ingredients, small-batch production. Limited retail distribution because the company is so small. I order mine online.

I am currently using the Revitalize Oil. DD uses the Repair Oil. It has a very herbaceous smell which dissipates fairly quickly, definitely before you would leave the house. They have recently introduced Recovery Oil for mature skin. When I finish the bottle of oil I currently have, I’m going to try the Recovery Oil.

I recently ordered some pricey but not-too-expensive items directly from Dior for a gift. Nail, lip and mascara for about $100. The gift box and the ribbon and the filler are gorgeous. And the samples were awesome, loved the lip glow. I usually order most beauty items from Sephora or Nordstrom, I always forget that ordering directly from the source might have extra perks.

Revitalizing this thread for 2 products:

1. I take collagen, and originally started with this brand from Costco. I've taken them for a few years. A few months ago, I decided to try this powder product, also purchased at C. I finished 2 containers and didn't care for consuming it in powder form. So I went back to the Youtheory tablets a few weeks ago. The past few days, I've noticed my nails are growing rapidly again, and I'm not so stiff in the mornings. This was an accidental discovery, of course, but I'm going to stick with Youtheory tablets.

2. I recently received a sample of Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, and I love it. I still need a bit of powder in my T-zone, and it provides a really nice, light finish.

I recemtly changed over to creme eye shadow. The Revlon variety that I puchased has a small applicator sponge built into the lid, but generally I use my finger to apply. I like that it stays on and has a subtle look. Lots of youtubes available on the application process. This is what I purchased (less than $10 per color). I have also started using a eye shawdow primer.

Maybe I missed it, but I'm surprised nobody mentioned Supergoop Glow Screen. It's tinted and has SPF40. I really like it. I also like the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint. It's more dewy than Supergoop so if you have oily skin, probably wouldn't work.

I also really love the Supergoop unseen sunscreen. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. But it goes on and works better than anything I've ever used. It allows me to not burn but still tan, even in the tropical sun on vacations. And it just goes on so easy. I hate having to rub and rub to get the white cast to disappear. None of that with this. They recently came out with one for the body (I was using the original that says it's for face for my entire body because I love it that much). I ordered 2 tubes of the body one but haven't used them yet.
