Update from Indiana

Today we have joined the ranks of those with daylilies blooming. H. dumortieri is in bloom but it looks as if it was hurt by the frost. The scapes are shorter than what I remember.

Bob and I sold over 110 double fans of daylilies plus assorted other tropicals at our local herb fair on Saturday. This is the pickup bed filled with dayliles.

The iris continue to bloom. This dwarf variety is called Breakfast in Bed.

This dwarf is Dolce. I know I posted it the other day, but I am really liking this one.

This is a large bearded iris. I don't know its name.

We are beginning to find scapes--more every day. So far there are scapes on By the Golden Rule, Forbidden Territory, a dark scaped seedling from Olallie, Vader's Choice, Begins with a Bang, Kiss of Paradise, and a favorite yellow with red eye seedling. I can't wait to see all these.

Beautiful! I thought I had fallen out of love with iris mostly, but this season (or lack of bloom) has rekindled. Maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder after all, LOL! Love your rose!

Nan, I'm so sorry to read about the storm devastation on your property. It sounds like a mess. At least your home and your garage were spared, and you and Bob didn't get hurt. I've had trees split in storms and land on my daylily beds, and the daylilies made it through just fine. I bet your select seedlings will too. I hope your power comes back sooner than they told you. I am always amazed at the work you do for your sale! That is one good looking truck bed of daylilies. The iris are lovely. Such pretty colors.

We worked on the digging and washing for 2 days (not the whole days though) and spent Friday putting them in baskets according to type. We loaded up the truck Friday night and left the house at about 6:15 on Saturday morning. The fair goes on from 8 to 3. We are sure tired when we get home--getting too old for this, but we can't pass up the chance to get rid of a few and make a few dollars. I think we have been doing this for about 14 years. We have regular customers who look for our booth every year. We sold about 115 double fans.

And Nancy, they are such large healthy fans! When I dig a few for trade I always get a new sense of ”hats off” to those who do this on a regular basis!

Now that is one loaded pickup truck. That is a lot of work to dig, divide, clean and label.

We shipped 10 boxes of daylilies a couple of weeks ago. It seemed like we worked all day shipping those 25 or so plants. Most hybridizers I know dislike the shipping side of the business.

I admire the work for that sale totally! I have no idea how you manage it. I am so happy to see you blooms beginning. That frost hurt everyone, didn't it? My Muy Caliente will be blooming soon and has just about doubled its fans. That is one great plant!

Happy to hear the sale went well! Pretty iris today. mine will be a diappointment this season, not many scapes.
