tiny office advice

Here’s a pic of this tiny office with no windows (5.3”x7.5”) that is in the works. Enough for a chair and desk I suppose. What do you recommend I do to make it cozy and nice?

Have a decent lamp with bright globe to place on desk so you have an alternative to canned overhead lighting.

I THINK this is the bed/desk you've ordered, which I'm posting to help people help you. This happens to be in the all white version. Is the desk a separate piece? I didn't see the bed with a desk on the site. Gatgamel - I saw that it was fabric but meant that I’d love to find a similar wallpaper. 🥰 I’ll be putting in a track light Jennifer and will try cooler lighting as you suggest. Hollybar-I’m leaning toward repainting with OC-70.’ That’s more what I wanted, thank you. Shady willow farm - I hear you. I’ll post a picture of my eventual hope for this office, which would do away with the shelves over the desk. I’ll de-clutter for now, good point. I appreciate everyone’s suggestions - thanks for taking the time. Here’s in progress (1st coat) with Benjamin Moore’s Mellow Pink 2094-70. I’ll see how it is with the second coat but it seems tooooo pink right now. Lighting is terrible right now!

Tiny Cape Remodel! Need Advice!

We have a small Cape that has been expanded up and back 3 times, twice in the 1980s by previous owners and then last year. We're in a high cost area and have zero DIY skills or knowledge so our costs and experience may not be all that relevant. As you & others said, it's a huge job in terms of time and money. A full tear-down might be simpler and not much more expensive. Our project last year "only" involved ripping the roof off part of the house (an addition by previous owners) and it was easier for the builders to take it down to the foundation. Alternatively since you said you have a lot of land, you might consider @3onthetree's suggestion to add on around the house. When we were flailing about trying to figure out how to improve our house, I remember reading that this was the traditional approach in New England.

Is this an actual room with a door? If so, what is the light in the hallway like? If there is good light outside of the door, I'd install a glass paneled door to borrow light from in there and then paint the walls a nice white. If the hallway has no good light, it'd embrace the darkness and paint the walls, ceiling, and trim all the same dark color.

Have a dimmable overhead light fixture installed and use 3000k bubls. Have a good desk lamp too. Get a shaggy cozy floor rug.

Do you only work sitting at a desk or do you also like to work in a comfy chair with a laptop too? I like to work in a cozy chair and had an office this size. I put the desk on the short wall with back to the door. And I put a nice cozy arm chair with small footprint in room too. I had a small side table type ottoman that I kept against the wall but would pullout to put my feet up on.

Ikea sells wall light panels. Some people use them to simulate windows. Might be an idea.

consider all the things you NEED and simplify a plan. Use the best finishes and keep it simple.

It's already cozy, but it's not nice. It's also not an office, it's a closet. I could never work in a space with no natural light. Having said that, Lyn's pic suggests a good starting point.
