Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 4/9
Comments (19)Legomom, our personal journeys cross paths frequently lol ... I can't bring myself to eat salad right now (at least not one with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and vinaigrette dressing) so I have been opening my menu to more protein. Vegetables in general aren't turning me off but the salad combo is the issue. Problem is, a salad meal is more fulfilling than say a bowl of broccoli iykwim... hence the increase in meat and eggs. 10 distinct animal protein sources seems like an awful lot lol.. I was all proud of ordering 3 meats this week (ground turkey, shrimp and pre-made organic chicken burgers) .. not sure that I'll ever reach 10! It does help that I like seafood and fish but I can't imagine going beyond 5 ... maybe 6 a week. I'll be curious to see how you do. Can you count cheese, butter, milk/cream, and gelatin?? Do chicken thighs count as distinct from chicken breast?...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/4/2023
Comments (15)Also got food poisoning in NOLA, so I totally understand. We were there for the college football national championship. My friend and I had the same lunch except she got chicken gumbo, and I got seafood, and a few hours later I was vomiting, and it was game day. I made it to the game and drank ginger ale. That would have been horrible to spend that much money and miss the game. Luckily, our seats at the dome were on an aisle and near a bathroom. But I was feeling better by game time than the afternoon and then luckily for the long bus ride home the next day I was OK. But yes, I have an aversion to gumbo now. Also still haven’t done my decorative flowers! This week is supposed to be good weather, so I should be able to go out and get them. I will do the front planter box, hanging baskets, and some general pots for the deck. I did a Pilates reformer small group class yesterday so it was good to be back for that. I need to re-up my private sessions. DH bought me a gift certificate for my birthday, but he bought the group classes vs. privates. With the new studio, she has changed the class offerings, and he doesn’t really know the difference between a class pass and private session. So, I have over 10 class sessions but now 0 private lessons, so I will need to buy another package. He is actually intrigued by the Reformer, so maybe he will use one LOL. But I have to start somehwere with him with basic strength training. He just had his physical and everything is great—cholesterol, A1c, PSA, etc. But yes, after having alcohol more days last week due to travel and my birthday, I am ready for another dry period. We have Peter Frampton tickets at the end of the month, so no need to have any alcohol until then. We picked the rest of our lettuce from the garden since it was getting near the end, so lots of salads this week. I ordered the Oikos protein yogurt with my online shopping order yesterday, so that will be a good afternoon snack. I tracked my food as best I could but it’s a huge educated guess when dining out. Zumba today! Have a good week, everyone!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/4/2024
Comments (41)Oakley, I hope you are seeing an endocrinologist and will enroll in a diabetes management program through your health insurance. It sounds like you need guidance, and that you could be shortchanging yourself by substituting the internet for sound, ongoing medical advice. Jojoco, you’re still well within the healthy BMI range and clearly don’t ”need” to lose weight, but I understand how good it can feel to have control over something like that in your life— especially when you’ve lost control of other things. I do weigh every day and as long as I stay within a five pound range I no longer worry about my weight. Just eating in a restaurant can cause a two lb increase on my scale from additional sodium alone. I have—almost— eliminated alcohol from my diet as was recommended for my autoimmune issues, and that caused a noticeable but not ongoing drop in weight 18 months ago. I track my food intake assiduously, more now to note how I feel and how much energy I have after eating certain foods. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to track and weigh as long as they don’t become ends unto themselves....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 4/7
Comments (17)Funky, as you know I am right behind you on the big 60 and while I have some great celebration plans in place, something about ”60” is getting to me. Yikes. There’s no pretending any more, LOL, 60 just is not young. And 59 has been kinda messy for me — all sorts of new aches and pains including undiagnosed pain in one foot (after two MRIs, two cortisone shots, PT, etc., no one can agree on what the issue is) and a new pain on the opposite side of the same foot (I think I pulled? a tendon doing downward dog…kinda pathetic) — seeing my PCP for that one tomorrow. I also had a breast cancer scare a few months ago (it was nothing) and two friends diagnosed with cancer (both my age) and multiple friends’ parents dying. Just feels like there are reminders everywhere that I am getting OLD! Oh, and my skin? Ugh. There was an incident here with some ice cream the other day. That’s all I’m gonna say about that, but it’s over now and I just had some very yummy berries with plain greek yogurt for lunch. Big salad and chicken for dinner tonight. Exercise is spotty thanks to the foot issues. Until last week I was just carrying on with my usual outdoor walks and Peloton rides, but after this new ouchy thing, I have tried to take a break to see if rest might help. I did a couple workouts with weights last week, though, and DH has been away for a few days so I had dog-walking duty. Barn, I heard about that greek cookbook somewhere else, too. I’m going to check it out....See More- last year
