looking for siding ideas (Modern Prairie style home)
We bought a ranch house with large overhangs and gutted the entire middle section (almost 80% of the house). We turned it into a modern prairie style house, and we want the new section to blend in. The old siding is brick and lap siding aluminum. We definitely going to change the color of the brick and use composite siding. We want the new section to blend in as far as siding material. The new section is much higher since we added a second level, and we don’t want to carry the siding all the way to the top since it will be overpowering. It’s looking more and more that we will be using 3 different materials on the higher sections.
We appreciate your ideas on colors and type of material.

I also like the idea of re-staining it all to match. If you keep the original style what kind of railing are you going to replace it with? And likewise if you change the style? Comments (32)Here's some information about sliding windows. In a storm the exposed track fills with water and if it doesn't drain fast enough water enters the house. I've seen it happen in a test chamber. The fact that they are cheap is not enough of a reason to put them in a house. And little burgers are known to cause indigestion. Comments (5)I don't like the dark paint. With your light roof and light stone it looks like someone tied a dark green ribbon around the top of your house. A lighter color would be an improvement. I dislike the planters and would remove them if possible. I would remove the rail if it is not needed for safety. It is probably original but it makes the door seem inaccessible You can buy a full view storm door and paint it and the house door the same color. I love your lamp post. Do you have a porch light? last yearThis is the Meyer May House in Grand Rapids, MI which is a FLW design. It's a landmark Prairie style home.
The facade emphasizes the horizontal nature of the design. It's all brick except for some stone bands. I'm not an architect, but I don't think there is a need for three different types of finishes on your house, and any siding should run horizontally instead of vertically.- PRO
