Hard wired sconces are nice but you can keep it easy and portable by using wall sconces that are simply plugged into your outlets.

I was actually going to suggest painting the back wall. I’d decide on the rug and art first and then bring home paint chips/test a few.

If you show the other side of the space, it might help to get a better sense of what might work in the lounge area, decor-wise, etc.

Thank you all! The painting has been moved. Second chair arrived. I ordered that little cute drink table but it is prob too small. Marked up the new painting and got two swatches for the paint color. I think I’m going with Iron Mountain (the bigger swatch). The other color is a little too green for the room. The bar will get moved shortly. Oh and a black and white cowhide rug (faux) is arriving tomorrow.

Chairs look really sharp! Yes, the drink table is too small, but you will find something. Looking forward to seeing the rug!

How do you want to use this area? As a loungey type bar, or a bar with tables you can play games on as well as have a cocktail? Loungey would need comfy arm chairs and small tables to put down drinks. The other would need larger table or two and some comfy dining type chairs.

Thanks Tara. We have a large sectional in living room (photo above) that opens up to the bar room so not sure we’ll do more seating.

Here are the two options for the bar. It looks odd when straight on the wall no? We don't like that you can see the back of the bar when you enter the room when it's straight against the wall.

Love the bar! But the people sitting at the bar will have their backs to the room. So, what if you put some door or canvas or something to hide the open shelves, and turn it 90 degrees and move it toward the back wall slightly so the people sitting in the chairs can just turn a little bit to have a conversation with people sitting in the chairs?

Here is an example of doors made from hardware cloth. You look a bit too modern for chicken wire.🙂

And your husband can use 1x6s and L brackets as shelves on the walls for your extra bottles. Very easy project and won’t damage the walls.

Yes, keep going. It will help the soffit disappear and lift the ceiling line.

I prefer the dark soffit, which do you like? Technically, the artwork on the left is going to be under the soffit whether you paint it or not. It looks like you have room to shift the artwork and chairs on the left down if it bothers either of you.

I'm not sure! I already got some of the dark paint on the soffit because I was so sure I was painting it. Maybe I'll finish the wall as is, hang painting (being shipped) and then decide if I want to paint soffit or not. I got some paint on soffit so have to fix that if I decide to leave it.

What about this set up but with chairs facing in, bar placed on focal wall with something above. Won’t see behind bar and you can even pull into room a bit to help balance the space.

Can you pull the rug out some and place it on an angle?

What it you put the bar projecting out square from the side wall -- so the long side is parallel to the back wall, but it's off center so the painting shows.

I still like the idea of a leopard rug for your space. It’s bold, but the leopard pattern is still subtle enough to work with your other rug.

@tresmamma now that you have your second chair, I can see how pretty they are! And I love your new rug! I see now that the space is too small for some of the ideas I suggested. With your new bar location, are you comfortable with the back of the bar being so visible?

We still have everything out of it and sliders under it so we can move it around LOL. Waiting on painting and then we'll decide where to place the bar. I just ordered a super cool lamp. I hope it will look good. Will attach a picture.

A thought as to seeing the back of the bar on the right wall: put a medium to tall plant on that side to hide what's behind. Of course, this limits access to only one side.

I wouldnt put a plant in a windowless room- that just kills a plant.

Ok, room is getting there! It still needs shelving behind bar and the bar probably has to be moved parallell with the wall but I need to buy a plant or something so the inside of the bar can’t be seen. What do you think?

What do you mean…the “inside of the bar can’t be seen?” Are you thinking of turning this into an alcove with modern open bookshelves or something, jutting out from the wall near the orange chair? I don’t understand. OR do you mean so that the interior of the bar can’t be seen? It can’t be seen, although I don’t know how anyone can tend the bar without access behind it in the corner. Please clarify.

I like what you've done too! Since you asked, the bare wood colors of the bar and the floor appear to work against each other which makes the space look choppy. One way to bring cohesion with all your different elements is to layer a larger rug underneath your animal rug. Also, I know you decided to leave the soffit white but consider painting the baseboard on the accent wall so it blends in with the wall color. You could also add a small coffee table. The photos of your progress are fun, thanks for keeping us updated!

Ptreckle, if .you look at some of my other photos, we moved the bar parallell to the wall opposite the chairs. You could see inside it (the bottles, tools etc) and it didn't look good so we put it back in the corner. If we turn it parallell, I want to put a plant or something by the opening so you can't see the back from the living room which is open to the room. I hope I was able to explain myself correctly.

JT, I didn't paint the soffit and it turned into a whole big thing but that's for another post LOL. I like what you did there but will it not be too busy against my pretty busy green living room rug plus the cowhide? And I'm glad you are enjoying the progress pics. I love all that stuff also so I get it!

Everyone has their own tolerance and taste for color and pattern - if you're inclined to try a larger rug under the animal rug, you can select a subtle pattern or none at all.
