I am waiting until June. I had the first bivalent booster in December, If I were not flying and cruising mid summer I would not get the 2nd booster until fall or early winter when there may be a new variant that can be addressed.

I suppose if someone tells me I should get it, I will. Esp if there's a surge. But last I looked on the cdc website I could not figure out if and when I was supposed to get my next so I stopped worrying about it. Maybe in the Fall. DH and I got the Pfizer "booster" or whatever they called it, late last October along with our flu shots. I immediately got sick (negative for COIVD) and was sick until just before the New Year.

New Year's Eve, DH came down with COVID and was very ill i.e. in bed for a week and felt exhausted for a few weeks after. DH never stays in bed and usually powers through illness.

Needless to say we are both a bit apprehensive about getting yet another COVID shot.

We're going to wait until fall for our next covid booster shot. By then it may be formulated for newer variants and included with our annual flu shot (just hopeful speculation). This next covid shot (in the fall) will be #6 for us and we'll be getting our shingles shots in May so that's enough shots for the time being.

I feel for those still living under this umbrella of fear. It must be rough. I've had my vaccines. I've had a bout with COVID...I have all the immunity my body can hold!!!! These new strains are weaker each go round--have you noticed? Yes one may be very contagious but as I said like a cold or flu and no more threatening if you've had any of the above yet. So no no more shots for this pandemic for me or mine. I think those commercials about underlying conditions...are horrid. FEAR FACTOR should not be pressed any longer!!!

I'm glad your experience with Covid wasn't awful. My sister in law lost her best friend not quite a month ago. She had had two chemo infusions for a cancer said to be treatable, then contracted Covid somehow. 5 days later she was dead.

We had dinner with her widower and he's doing OKish but said dinnertime to morning are the hardest hours for him.

It's new there? It's been here for months! The only reason I didn't get it is because my store ran out. I've had 2 shots and 3 boosters but will wait to see if I really need another shot within the next year or not. I've also had Covid so I *should* be well protected. I had Covid after having had 3 shots and while it was very mild (super duper lethargic + all the other symptoms but they weren't bad), it still lasted over 2 weeks. It took me a month to feel 100% again and it took about 3 months for the ice pick headaches to stop.

@ HU-787167202 You do realize the common flu kills between 294,000 and 518,000 deaths each year globally. One thing Covid19 has taught me is how vacinations work. Until last January, I had never had a flu shot in my life. I didn't need one. I've never had the flu. Ever. And I didn't know anyone who died from it. BUT: Covid taught me that not only do I get the shot to protect me, it protects those around me who might end up in the ER if I carry the virus. So I got my first ever flu shot AND my last covid shot. The Bivelent shot has been available here for months so I'm hoping I won't need another covid shot for a year. Just like the flu shot, it will soon be a yearly thing. I do know two people who have died from Covid. While one did have a couple of her shots, it wasn't enough to save her and she had a massive stroke that ended her life. She was my husbands aunt. A former co-worker of mine moved to the US (Georgia) with her Canadian husband. They didn't believe in the shots. He's dead: a week after being diagnosed with Covid. Yet she took the emergency antibodies the day after she was diagnosed (it was too late for her husband to ge them). And the common cold can work its way up to brohnchits and pnemonia. My sister spent a month in the hospital in September/October with sepsis pnemonia. She was sure it was just a bad cold and doesn't remember the emergency room when my parents demanded she go there. Whle the C19 virus is getting weaker (is it? Or are there more and more people getting the shots so it appears weaker because fewer people are dying from it after having the shots......), it can be fatal for many people. And it's our job as part of society to do our part to keep our neighbours safe.

If I do get it it won't be until the fall. I've had two Moderna vaccinations and two Pfizers but no boosters. The last shot was Sept 2022 and then I had my flu shot about 6 weeks later. I haven't had covid and I credit that to the vaccinations and being cautious. I certainly don't live under an umbrella of fear.

What I won't do however which a few of my friends/family did, and that was to get get the flu shot and booster at the same time. They all felt like crap for a close to a week after. For me, that's just putting too much extra stuff into my body at the same time.

I was not aware there was a new one, but I would like to get it, for sure. I work with lots of kids, so I do everything I can to stay as safe as possible. SIL and her family all have it presently, and only found out because her husband wound up in the hospital. They live in the next county to ours and all have serious preexisting health issues and are over 60, they never got any of the shots either.

FWIW, it seems that my state has stopped providing COVID info, not sure if they're even keeping track any more. We have such a wonderful guy heading our state's dept of health 🙄

My mate has an appointment to get the bivalent vaccine on Monday, but had gotten it when it first became available last September. I will do the same as soon as I finish a round of antibiotics prior to a root canal procedure. I did read that there may be an updated vaccine in the autumn.

Thank you, everyone who is considering Other People as well as themselves. I've gotten 4.5 years of continuing life from receiving monthly treatment against a blood cancer, multiple myelma. DH and wear masks to the grocery, library, etc. Neither of us has contracted Covid, or even a cold for more than two years. Covid would probably kill me. Were I to survice, I have enough on my plate without Long Covid.

I'd also like there to be enough healthy nurses, doctors, pharmacists, etc. to keep treating me -- and everyone else who is sick, whether from Covid or something else.

My understanding is that the April 19, 2023 CDC updated and simplified recommendation pertains specifically to allowing an additional bivalent dose to those who are 65 yrs or older and those who are immunocompromised and would like additional protection. The idea is to allow healthcare providers flexibility to administer additional doses as needed. I myself would not characterize getting the possibility of getting long covid as the equivalent to getting the flu or a cold and then recovering (although as has been pointed out people still die from both covid and the flu). Perhaps those who blow off the possibilities of permanent damage as harmless or unimportant will become believers after scientists discover more about the connection between covid and long covid.

I will get it, but not sure about timing. Probably I will wait until fall, when (just like flu) transmission will likely surge.

It is quite likely that the falling rates of death and hospitalization are related to the increasing numbers of people immunized. Since the virus still mutates, though, we shouldn't become too complacent.

I might get it in the fall. I'll have to know more about it. Does it cover all coronaviruses (probably not)? There's a new sub-variant out, apparently, does it work against that one (Arcturus)? We have a few cases in my area.

In almost every study I've read there is one huge elephant in the room that the media and public health alerts etc. are not addressing. That issue is Mental Health, both before and after having Covid.

I've been vaccinated and boosted. I've had Covid three times. I have Long Covid symptoms as well. I will not get another booster because the two times I've had it, post-vax/post-booster, were FAR worse than the first time I had it, in early April 2020 - prior to the existence of any vaccination.

Lola have your vitamin D level checked and take 5000 units of D a day. This summary from a study in Israel back in 2022.

Patients with a vitamin D deficiency were 14 times more likely to have a severe or critical case of COVID-19. Additionally, the mortality rate for those with insufficient vitamin D levels was 25.6%, compared with 2.3% among those with adequate levels.

Since then studies Italy, Egypt and a few other countries had studies and showed conclusively vitamin D does help a lot. But If it doesn't come from the US, Canada or England These studies aren't creditable?

OK, people can take their shots if they want but everyone should take Vitamin D. We've been taking D before covid and my 71 year old wife who was an essential worker spent every day face to face with dozens of sick people a day, and when an employee came down with covid there was no shut down or cleaning. Next, Next, don't cough on me, next, and every employee (dozens) had covid at least once but never my wife and never me. So take D, it won't hurt and will only help.

Kevin, Yes, I'm on 10,000 units of D per day, and have been for the past ten years. I also have cancer. The low VitD has had a huge detrimental effect on my general health.

I don't take vitamin supplements but I do believe that Vitamin D plays a huge role in keeping our immune systems strong. I spent the last 3 years outdoors in the sun much of the time so I guess I come by mone naturally and my body utilizes it well. I do believe that contributed to my recovering from covid quickly. I know I had it last year for sure. Maybe more than once. I don't go testing for every sniffle or sneeze or scratchy throat or headache, so who really knows? I am also pretty sure I had the actual Covid 19 in 2019/2020 before it got "advertised". Mild sporadic fever and a constant cough for over 2 months s along with general fatigue I attributed to the sleep disturbances from the coughing at the time. Never put me in bed. Just really annoying. Not vaxxed. Older. Still alive. Sorry. Not sorry. ;-)

My mate had an appointment for vaccine today, but was turned away from CVS who said they had not yet corporately okayed participating in this second round of bivalent vaccinations.

Wildchild, for mostly blond, (darker blond naturally but I keep brighter with the regular hair appts), green eyes, I'll bet I can tan - never burn - darker than anyone else you know. Can, and have, used to do it regularly and intentionally. Dark enough it called attention which had been my intent. No sun screen, not ever. There may be some native american on my fathers side but thats never been proven.

But my point is, I kept an appt with my endo one year in July when I was deepest darkest bronzely tanned. She asked about my sun exposure and I braced for the stern lecture I was sure was coming. It didn't come. My Vit D was reading low on the pre-appt blood work I'd had done for her. I thought she was kidding. If the amount of sun I'd had hadn't supplied the Vit D along with the large amounts of milk DH and I both drink, there is no way (no way under the sun ;)) to acquire it naturally. We don't eat junk food either, never have been interested.

She had me begin 2000 mg Vit D and I've kept it up the last 20 years.

DH has darker Croatian skin and had always tanned too. Not to the extent I did but he would always mow the lawn shirtless and in shorts, and he worked outdoors for a living most days of the week until his recent retirement. After a physical one year when I was browsing his copy of his bloodwork, I noticed his Vit D at the very bottom of the normal range too. His doctor hadn't mentioned it. I had him begin the same dose that I take and we've both been in the mid normal range every year since.

With our unbroken dairy habits and outdoor time, if we could be low - anyone could. Don't count on natural light to provide the optimum amount.
