Help - worst green beans ever
Comments (3)Yes, it certainly could be the rainy weather all the east coast has been having. If your soil doesn't have a chance to drain but is continually filled with water, the plant roots begin to suffocate. I'm still picking green and wax beans, but the lower leaves really look tacky, yellowing and dessicated. The tops are still green and healthy, so I guess they'll keep producing unless the bottom of the plants die. As for helping them, I'd let them be for a while. See what happens. If you have sandy soil, the original fertilization gets carried down as the rain drains into the subsoil, so when things have stabilized, I'd add a small amount of a balanced fertilizer to see if that's useful. Or your plants may perk up without additional fertilizer....See MoreWater spots on glass shower door - the worst EVER!
Comments (12)Krissie is spot on. I posted this solution elsewhere. Bar Keepers Friend. I copied/pasted my original response below. I'd say good luck, but you won't need it... +++++++++++ I've tried everything over the years. Never had much luck with vinegar, fabric sheets, oven cleaner, and all the other suggestions. They kind of work, but not to my satisfaction. Plus, many are toxic. That's not how I'm going to go out. Then I happened upon a random posting online where a guy methodically tested all these different solutions in a controlled environment -- side by side in his shower. See URL below. Without a doubt, BARKEEPERS FRIEND is your solution. I've used it for several years since and it works wonders. My wife uses it to clean our kitchen sink and other surfaces. It's cheap and available everywhere. It doesn't scratch. Leaves no film. And isn't toxic like all those products that need "good ventilation." It's got oxilic acide or something like that. No scrubbing. Apply liquid or power (with water) with a sponge, do 3-4 circles, and wipe off. No sweat and instant gratification. A little car wax after cleaning and you're all set. Trust me. You can thank me later by verifying my suggestion... http://www.themanlyhousekeeper.com/2011/03/11/solved-soap-scum-and-hard-water-stains/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_Keepers_Friend http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/...See MoreLee Industries Sofa--worst ever furniture
Comments (244)Y'all, I'm looking now at the Lee sofa on which I spent more than $5,000 6 or 7 years ago for the higher quality level, only to watch the cushions become WEIRDLY misshapen within 18 months: "pitching forward" (a good term for something I hadn't known could happen before seeing it here), sinking in the middle, the back cushions developing permanent horizontal folds that couldn't be returned to its intended shape, and slanting to one side in a way that wouldn't fluff back to its original shape. The seat straps collapsed in less than 3 years, and I used the throw cushions under the main seat cushions to bring it back to height somewhat. TOTAL CRAP! What's left of it is still here, due to a combination of pandemic issues (including my getting long covid) and the difficulty of finding smaller-sized quality furniture in the configuration I want. Wish I'd stuck with the beautiful Calico Corners sofa that the Lee replaced only because a new room configuration required an L-shaped sectional for TV viewing. During the pandemic, a new Calico sectional -- a small one -- was going to cost in the upper $7,000s - low $8,000s, and I was already out the $5,000-something for the Lee, so... After re-reading this thread, I'll look into the Quatrine, Massoud, and Arhaus. But ple-e-ease SAVE YOURSELVES from the Lee Industries experience!...See MoreTell me about your worst kitchen ever
Comments (18)Bluekit - you must tell us more about that tarantula. Wow, it's actually possible that people have worse kitchens than me??? I'm *so* sorry to hear that!! My current kitchen *is* really bad. Beyond being tiny (roughly 7x10), it's never been updated since its inception in 1948. (Uh, not quite true - I did get a new fridge at one point.) Sink: Enormous cast iron double sink that I only use half of - I covered the other half to hold a dish drainer since I have no dishwasher. (The covered half is cavernously big - I think it was intended for laundry.) Stove: 36" wide gas range where the burners are all shoved to one side as though it were a 24". Pilot light that goes out all the time. You light the oven by turning on the gas, and then waving a lighted match in the broiler drawer underneath - I'm always afraid I'm going to either asphixiate before the flame catches OR blow up the building. Maybe both. Cabinets: White, painted over so many times the doors don't close. And so few of them! One cabinet over the fridge that I can't use because I have the microwave on top of the fridge. One over the sink. A metal sink base so warped, the doors won't open. A broom closet. And one set of 48" wide/17" deep upper/lower cabinets with a counter on top. That is my only counterspace, btw. Counter: Old white speckled formica with chrome edge. Happily, not much of it. (See cabinets.) Floor: Some old white-ish vinyl tile that you can't make look clean no matter what you do. Completely unlevel. My contractor cracked up when he saw my floor - said it's the worst he's ever seen. Oh, and the doorway - there used to be a door there, but someone before me removed the door but left the doorframe and one hinge. Man, I can't wait to rip this whole thing out!!!!...See Morerebecccarand
