desert rose had a really rough year
Comments (7)Unfortunately due to the crampedness in my apartment and the only bedroom with a truly sunny window already occupied there's no way I could get her a grow light or a sunnier place than my kitchen / dining area. The other plants I have inside seem to do fine - anthurium, azaeleas, ivys. Aloe did ok but is happier outside again. I'm in Central Texas, zone 8a. Caudex is firm. El Nino has really confused a lot of plants in this area this year, which is why in the Spring, there were perfect fungal conditions and she exhibited fungal or root rot symptoms. I thought, hey, she will love the humidity - but there wasn't enough light to make the humid conditions tolerable, I think. I work at a gardening center, so I do know the basics on succulent care, and when she had adequate lighting at the last apartment, treated her as a tropical and she did great. I think when we potted her two years ago, we just used an organic Ladybug brand potting soil. Most likely Vortex. Since then I have potted all my other succulents in TGU's Super Sustain with great results. A friend of mine told me that she looks so stressed, I should leave her alone and stick a moisture meter in until the fall, only water when she is bone dry, and then transplant - while originally everyone I knew sung the praises of the Smart Pot, now they are telling me the oxygen exchange might actually be harming her. I only fertilize with organic seaweed as a drench. I like the idea of utilizing a hanger, I'll talk to my dad about rigging that up. I'm not sure how possible it is but it is like if I could just move her on the other side of the balcony bars, she'd be getting that full sun. Thank you SO much everyone for your input. <3...See MoreMy 2022-2023 Japanese Garden Compliments My Rose Gardens!
Comments (117)Elena, Name of dwarf cherry? Interesting-pretty Japanese tree! . I have a few cherry trees… Kwanzan, Wowza Cherry, Weeping Cherry, Okame Ch blossom trees. My Okame tree is 2 1/2 years old. I olanted it in Aug, 2nd, but trunk died over winter except 6 inches left above ground. So I grew another trunk & tree branched out now at 7-8 feet-looks very hardy now. I hope this spring to have blooms finally. I will keep pruning it small in width at 6 ft, because it is next to a rose garden bed ....See MoreBill Cosby returning to tour in 2023.
Comments (18)" He was still convicted on the evidence, but was freed on a technicality. " I have a friend who's a criminal defense lawyer. He's passionate about what he does. He once told me that he never asks his clients whether or not they committed the crimes they are charged with. I asked him if he wondered about their guilt or innocence and why he would represent such people. He responded something to the effect "I suspect most of the scumbags I defend are guilty. Our freedom depends on justice being imposed fairly and the police and prosecutors have rules they need to follow. I'm not defending the rights of scumbags, I'm protecting you and me from overly enthusiastic law enforcement that can't be allowed to break rules. When the other side breaks rules, the accused's rights must be protected no matter what". So, sushipup and others, that's the other side of "freed on a technicality"....See MoreWhat new-to-you rose (or roses) are you most excited about for 2023?
Comments (101)While watching several videos on youtube of the beautiful David Austin display gardens, it was brought home to me how effective darker roses such as Princess Anne and James Galway were in breaking up expanses of the softer whites, yellows and pale pinks. Another device that made an impact is how the different sizes of the blooms were very effective in giving interest and movement in areas in which there were almost no companion plants. From tiny to quite large, each rose bloom played a part in a veritable symphony of colors and patterns, and that is something we could readily transfer to our own gardens. In my garden of a very few seven roses there is yet one with very small and delicate blooms, Darlow's Enigma (white), slightly larger blooms of Purple Skyliner, the very large blooms of Grandmother's Hat, deep pink and Dixieland Linda, pinkish apricot, and the slightly smaller blooms of Wild Edric, deep pink, Cl. Caroline Testout, lighter pink and Ginger Syllabub, golden apricot. Not so bad for such a small assortment!...See MoreHoang Ton - Zone 9a
