It was overturned last year, because the court ruled his rights had be violated after one justice official said he wouldn't be charged, but then another arrested and charged him.
Regardless: In these post-shame days in the US public sphere, I'm not at all surprised.
IMHO he represents the worst of the revelations of the #METOO movement. He can plan all he wants--I can't imagine anyone going to hear is show.
I too am not sure about this post shame era. Seems to me many are taking a lashing for who they were when who they were was supported by main stream society. That is not fair. Taken out of context many things don't hold up. Forgiveness and grace is something we all need to give as we are all growing and evolving! Wiping out history only leaves it open to be repeated. We need to face the sins of our fathers and vow to do better!!
I wonder if there's enough sense among the general public to avoid any interest in his appearances and to not buy tickets. There should be but I have generally limited faith in the ability of my fellow Americans as a group to be sensible and make good decisions.
" He was still convicted on the evidence, but was freed on a technicality. "
I have a friend who's a criminal defense lawyer. He's passionate about what he does.
He once told me that he never asks his clients whether or not they committed the crimes they are charged with. I asked him if he wondered about their guilt or innocence and why he would represent such people. He responded something to the effect "I suspect most of the scumbags I defend are guilty. Our freedom depends on justice being imposed fairly and the police and prosecutors have rules they need to follow. I'm not defending the rights of scumbags, I'm protecting you and me from overly enthusiastic law enforcement that can't be allowed to break rules. When the other side breaks rules, the accused's rights must be protected no matter what".
So, sushipup and others, that's the other side of "freed on a technicality".
When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed it was a joke. From my very non-skilled background with all things medical , he seemed to be suffering from dementia and or alzheimers. He really didn't seem to know where he was. I can't imagine him being on stage talking.
Who in their right mind would want to be in his presence? or be seen in his presence, and pay for it? How could he even attempt pulling off being funny again? Fiend, good bye.
Yes, Seagrass, who in their right mind would vote for President of the United States a man who made fun of a disabled person? Who on earth would do that? Impossible to imagine.
