Bad purchase at orchid festival
Comments (9)I think it is absolutely lovely to find a bargain plant :-) It is the only kind I buy. If you know plants, it is easy to nurse them back to health. I have always said, if a plant is grown for its beauty, then what good is it if it is not beautiful? And so, every once in a while, i leave a sick plant to its fate. But the more experience I have with growing, the more I recognize the joy one can receive by growing something beautiful from something small. If a plant has a will to live, then I have a stronger will to make it thrive. Dont sweat the broken leaves, or the previous neglect. You know it is going somewhere amazing, because you are going to get it there :-)...See MoreOrchids in terrible shape, can you help? (pictures in comments)
Comments (9)There is plenty of orchid bark on hand, for humidity will have to check tomorrow. Too much right now I am guessing. Looks like we have a tiny orchid society after all, will contact them after I speak with the department. The pots are more holes than solid really. And definitely getting a better watering regimen. Will have to see if I can find colored plant tags, will be useful to color code in there for future students. Thanks for the help to, very appreciated. Will probably have more questions as I move forward, about separating, repotting, and pruning roots of they are as rotted as I fear. Hopefully the orchid society can lend us a hand too. Good practice for me, sooner or later I am going to try growing an orchid or 20 at home. May as well jump at a chance to be useful and boost my ever growing horticulture skills. And knowing I can reach out to you guys makes it a whole lot less daunting....See MoreIs this a good thing or a bad thing? See photo of my orchid.
Comments (8)Orchids tend to be free spirits when it comes to growth direction. :D This is a terrestrial orchid, so I'm not sure why it would think "down" is a viable option. Admittedly, these seem to favor any direction when growing in pots or hanging baskets, and I have not noticed this type of growth as pervasively when they are planted in the ground....See MoreNeed help with a Peace Plant that is in bad shape!
Comments (2)I would imagine there might be 2 possible scenarios at least, one is that the plant got far far too dry and will take some time to recover, another, is that it still needs water, in that case, you could fill up a saucer or a tub and put the plant in it to let it soak up what it needs. Is the soil saturated? Is the pot full of root? Do you see flies coming out of the soil? Does it smell normal or rotten? Do the roots look firm or mushy?...See MoreL Evve (Miami)
