Need a substitute for Cheer powder?

For a couple of years now, I have been able to find Cheer powder only at Walmart. They have been out now for about a month, and none of the other stores — Walmart or otherwise— have it. I have a bad feeling it’s not coming back. Such a shame. It’s just an excellent product. What would be a decent substitute powder? Something without optical brighteners?

Unfortunately, yes, the powder does have OBAs. Tide F & G liquid does not.

I've been trying to find a replacement for 3 months, I too think it is gone. I am using a liquid right now for colors & I hate liquid!

I began having trouble finding it long ago and Costco had quit stocking it. I changed to Tide Original and was quite happy with it.

I've had a many year habit of buying laundry products at Costco. The Tide they are offering recently is liquid, pods, or Tide with Oxy. I just want plain Tide, can put my own additive in if needed. I've been ordering it delivered (free with the right sized order) from Walmart and Target.

The only liquid I've ever used in a machine is Woolite very occasionally for just a handful of my more delicate things.

I Beth..hope you and the kiddos are all well. it could be it was washed more than the others, who knows...did you by any chance wash it with the A&H? I have blamed that detergent for slight fading. I don't think its from OB's that would cause more of a dusty look as if you dusted furniture with the garment. But to prevent any more fading I'd recomment cheer powder..but add the Cheer to the washer first, there's just a small amount of Sodium percarbonate in cheer not enough to fade colors but just enough to neutralize the chlorine in tap water, so by adding the cheer to the wash water first it will prevent the chlorine from causing fading..the sodium percarbonate in the cheer is the secret ingredient and why Cheer is considered a **Color Guard** detergent lol.

El...that's very very kind of you to do this for our wonderful and loving friend Bjorn. I am going to have to figure out shipping costs as I think it will be very expensive however I'm guessing at that, I really have no idea..if its not to expensive I can get package in mailer sooner than I'd hoped to..but it's going to be at least weeks before this happens. I was just thinking about how Bjorn is left out of all of this fun, do to him living so far away and with him not being well it can't be easy for him. And he had a heart of Gold. Apparently El, you also have a heart of Gold...which so many here do. No wonder this is such a wonderful place to spend time!!

I used 2 TBS. today with a VERY large load of workout wear. 105F. Little sudsing during the 30 min wash portion and Rinse 1 of 3 is not too sudsy. Actually for being Rinse 1, I would say excellent! So, Cheer in our water must be used for large loads, and/or loads that really need a washing! To date, the best still for small, very small or lightly soiled loads...Rosalie's Zero Suds. NO suds, wash or rinse and decent cleaning!!

Yes, it is hard to find. I can sometimes find powder Cheer at Smart & Final if you have that store, but not always. That is the ONLY walk in store I can find it at. I've ordered it online most of the time through Walmart and Target. Powders in general are scarce here. Part of the reason I got my two fl washers into the liquid detergent mess for many years. I did two loads today with powder Cheer and it was perfect results.

MizLizzie, Apparently there are some H-E-B stores in Texas who still have it. One store not too far from me has it in stock. Let me know and I'll be happy to pick up a couple. Or three. Or their stock....

Thanks, armjim. You’re a good egg. But I wouldn’t ask that of you — I’m on the East Coast. But WHY do manufacturers keep doing this?? Grrr.

The liquid version isn't horrible. However, if you prefer powders, I highly recommend Tide Free and Gentle.
