2011/2012 Official Dixondale Onion Thread
Comments (108)As Larry would say, "I mudded in some onions today." We haven't had much rain so far this year, but we have had just enough light showers to keep things wet since the cold days passed. We had light rain this morning and have a 20 percent chance of more tonight. I tip-toed between the rain showers and planted all of my Candy onions in a raised bed. We are going to have several cloudy days in a row so it seemed like a good time to get them out. My husband was in Atwood's today and called to tell me they had Dixondale onions and asked if I wanted more. He read me the list and I think Candy was the only intermediate day variety they had and all the rest were short-day. Since I had ordered Candy with the group order, I told him I didn't need anymore of those and didn't want the others. Although I live in that lap-over area that Dixondale says will grow both short day and intermediate day types, I am at the very top of it, and feel I will probably be better off with intermediate day types. That is another reason why I like to order with the group order since the local stores don't seem to pay much attention to that....See MoreJust Had To Share--It's Official! Settled Today
Comments (16)What wonderful news! I'm delighted for you, bee. Here's hoping for a very smooth build and a quick sale of your current home. PS I hope this won't be an issue for you but you should carry your tape measure with you when you go to check the progress of your home. We've built twice and both times, there were framing mistakes. There was a fairly minor error, caught before we moved in, on our first house (and this with excellent framers). Unfortunately, we didn't realize until too late that 2 of the 3 man crew who started framing our 2nd house had never framed a house before. ;-p We caught one of their 3 mistakes right away and had it corrected but we didn't discover the other two until we had moved in. We're fixing one of them now (we're remodeling bathrooms, etc) but we can't do anything about the other without spending a *huge* chunk of $$$. They poured a concrete pier and installed a support post 18" over from where it was supposed to go. We didn't realize this had happened until we tried to move the relatively small sized sofa into the playroom. We had to remove the door, take off the sofa's legs and we still barely managed to get it in because the of tight angles created by the support wall in the wrong place. There is a solution - sectional sofas - but it does narrow our furniture choices for this room. So fingers crossed that you don't have any problems like this ... but take your tape measure with you, all the same....See MoreHi! Officially! Really! Delurking!
Comments (45)OMG, Burnese too???? I love, love Burneses!!!!!! They're incredibly beautiful. Leo is a handsome devil too! I see he sleeps.....wherever he wants! We have 3 cats, and I love dogs......other people's dogs! Although I have fallen in love with a neighbourhood Greyhound. His name is Tiger (not because of his markings, although they are the colours of a tiger) but his racing name was Eye of the Tiger. If we were allowed dogs in our apartment, I'd be having a greyhound. I've heard them described as 40mph couch potatoes! Thanks for the compliment on my acronym screen-name, Elizabettes....See MoreThe Princess Cheers (not food related, unless you count SC seafood)
Comments (18)Ellen, I'm just finishing up the estate anda final account, I signed her up for Medicaid when she went into the nursing home and now the state wants $9,000 or "they'll sue the estate". OK, the estate has $104.62, LOL, let 'em have it! LindaC, the jellyfish weren't on the beach, they were in the water. Bud did find ONE on the sand after Amanda and Makayla got stung, but I didn't see any. Apparently the warm summer is causing an "infestation", according to the child liftguards. http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/local/article93042812.html "Martina Jedlicka, spokeswoman for Lack’s Beach Lifeguards, said reports of jelly stings are “so many we don’t count.” “It’s been all day long,” Jedlicka said Monday. “We spray people in the morning until afternoon, but it’s really common for this time in August, that people get stung.” Read more here: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/local/article93042812.html#storylink=cpy It's too bad jellyfish aren't good to eat! The Princess is a "back spot". She was the flier last year, but had a growth spurt and now she's 4 inches taller than I am, she's the tallest on the team and the most athletic, so she lifts, she catches and she does the dance/gymnastic stuff, but she doesn't "fly", thankfully. She got dropped her share of times, LOL. Annie...See Morekgdallas
