Time to pick out the backsplash, need ideas quick!
Comments (20)Question--will you really be able to get those Ann Sacks tiles delivered in three weeks? If not (my experience is that some of this stuff takes 4-6 weeks), maybe you could slow down--and wait until all the materials are in. I know what you mean, though b/c we are building and we want to get it all done at the same time so that once we are in, we are done! But, it might be worth just giving it some time. All of that being said, I think either of your choices will be wonderful. I would probably keep it neutral with either marble or cream/white subways....See MoreHELP! do I pick out backsplash or countertops first!
Comments (14)So many people get stuck on the backsplash, because they pick a busy (although beautiful) countertop and all the backsplashes they like, on the second shopping trip, don't work with it. I'd do what Rhome suggested and look for them at the same time. If you find a busy, glass tile backsplash that really 'speaks' to you, then you might need a calmer granite or other countertop. If you find a busy granite that you really want, then make sure you find a backsplash that will look good with it. The biggest problem I see on the forum is when people install the countertop and then ask...what backsplash should I pick? By then, the choices are often very limited or they choose something they don't like and have to do it twice. Best of luck finding a combination you really like! :)...See MoreBacksplash 'Rules'/Design Principals for Cohesion
Comments (105)Autumn, I think both of your options would look great! Did you see this reveal thread by toddimt where he did a herringbone framed bs area? (I have never posted a link so hope this works) http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2932005/kitchen-house-reveal-diy-with-scherrs-rta-better-late-then-never?n=55 He graciously posted step by step instructions with pictures on how he accomplished this. I loved it! My DH said he would probably do it a little different with ours. (something about tiling the board first flat, leaving out a few tiles where he'd screw it to wall?) I will let him figure that out. :) I just thought you might like to check it out. Todd did such a great job explaining it so that someone DIYing could easily follow the process. Your awesome that you can tile girl! I definately understand how herringbone would be harder then a brick pattern. Do you think it is only due to the extra care it takes to plan it out and the extra cuts? I'm just wondering if there is something else in particular about installing this pattern that makes it advisable to only use a professional if you want it to look right? I know you want your gorgeous tile to be perfect, so that's why I would want to know the potential problems. But in my uninformed mind anyways, I don't see why you couldn't do a great job if you take it super-duper slow. I think Todd said it took him like 3 weeks! However, I think it was those little glass mosaic tiles that were the lil' buggah's on his project....See Morehelp picking out grout color + ending backsplash border
Comments (8)Hi thanks for the responses ! The trim is going anywhere the backsplash ends , so all those cuts will be addressed. I just can’t quite figure out with what kind of trim. I’ve looked up the metal ones, but they’re very thin and I want one that’s at least an inch wide. And I’m not finding a matching glass tile color to use. And yeah, I originally didn’t want the side splash of the quartz on the wall either but was advised from several people that behind the sink areas, without a side splash, can create leaks / water eventually seeps in between the tile backsplash and counter top. And because the sink is in front of the pass thru , and we wanted a counter top for the pass thru anyway (paint never lasted and always came off bc of heat from food and how we use it) — with the side splash, there wasn’t enough space to put tile (I won’t lie, I wasn’t the most confident in my contractors abilities to do it either) so again, just decided to continue the quartz up. Definitely not the traditional way to do it, but I need this to last several years, and we use our kitchen a lot. So I figured this was the best way to get the most longevity out of our reno. But yeah, I myself would’ve preferred to not have it. Lol. My first choice for backsplash would have been marble - but thinking longevity — we cook with a lot of turmeric , paprika, etc - lots of staining ingredients- so I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of maintaining marble either (backsplash continues behind the stove) Out of all the options at floor &decor, this backsplash seemed to match best at the time. But now I’m just so unsure about it, so I’m just trying to make it work. Here’s picture of wood floor. It’s a townhouse - so foyer , kitchen and dining has same flooring. This pic was taken before backsplash. Thanks again for the input ! Any ideas on grout color? The cabinet color also keeps changing. Some days it looks blue, others a grey blue....See MoreHU-860381722
