should I hang the tv on the wall or leave it on the cabinet?

last year

Just moved into our new home and have a 75 inch tv. Should we hang it on the wall? Front door entry is on the right and wires are visible in its current position when people enter. (I can hide them with a tall faux tree)

I'm not sure about the TV. From what I can tell, the cabinet is fabulous and worthy of something more spectacular than a huge television. Can you post more photos of the space?

Congrats on your new house! That’s an awesome cabinet. Has a Jason Scott feel (I used to sell those).

It’s really just personal preference regarding the TV, and based on various factors. Last house, ours was hanging above my buffet because the room was much bigger and it was easier to see from everywhere.

This house, much smaller living room … we prefer the TV on the buffet.

ETA: Friday made a good point!

I love your room! I wouldn't hang art that high ^^. I like the asymmetrical placement, but think if you center it over the chair, it will actually be asymmetrical on the wall, but balance with the chair and lamp. Or maybe first try scootching the chair and table a little closer to the couch so the right corner of the chair lines up with the right side of the art. Or if you like the chair exactly where it is, maybe instead of centering the art over the chair, line it up by moving the painting slightly to the right so the chair and right edge of the painting line up, like I suggested above.

Don't buy anything until you try the simple route first. Remove the stairwell gallery and the stuff on top of your kitchen cabs. Try clearing the countertops a bit. How many pets do you feed? Can they eat together and stay friends? Organize one pet feeding/watering station outside the living area if possible. I see three huge bowls in the floor and they are a trip hazard as well as being unsightly if your furry friends don't eat every bite. Address the clutter in your TV center as well. Try 1/3 books, 1/3 larger decor items and 1/3 open space in the shelves.

Thank you! The rocker isn't required...I go back and forth on it, honestly, whether to make a spot for it and keep it or not. I love the styling, but it needs recaned. COVID and forced work from home has definitely created some issues (the filing cabinet and desk) in making it even more cluttered. The easel can be folded into a box and stored. It's a long story, but it was a gift from my husband, but unfortunately not highly useful for watercolor painting (what I dabble in), so I started using it for display so at least it was used at all. The ratan drawer set only holds video game components- which based on how frequently they are used, could be stored in a box in the closet under the stairs just fine. Behind the easel are two dvd storage towers. Again, pretty optional and really need pared down to what we actually want to keep. The shelves next to the freezer are the kid's book and maker space shelves right now...but it's ugly as all get out. I need to sit down and think about what they really need for space, and create it instead of just using those two black bookcases because they are there. But all of those books are kid books, as opposed to the wall shelf which is all adult books. The other big bookshelf is only records for the record player, and a few board games (that we never play. Need to declutter those. The played ones are upstairs by the table.) I agree the decor items don't look that good on the bookshelf...but I don't know what to do with them elswhere in our house. There's really no other place for knickknacks, and honestly that's the extent of our non-Christmas knickknacks. Almost all of the pictures and items have a personal history that is strong enough to keep them.

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you lived in a small house and the area pictured was the only space available to serve both as dining and living. I think you should do as someone above mentioned and cut cardboard to the different sizes that you are considering and see what you think will work best for you and your family. Your son did a very nice job on the table. I looked closely at it while considering the drop leaf table and thought how nice it looked. However, thinking that the room had to serve both as living and dining area it needed smaller scaled furnishings.

It does sound like hanging it would work better for you, and as Friday said, will show off your chest better, too. :)

When I had ours on the wall, I had similar decor on the buffet — stacked books with art objects I loved and a small lamp. Nothing that interfered with the screen, everything low or off to the side. I had framed art on either side of the TV, but nothing over it.

I bring this up on any TV thread, because I bought the TV a few months ago and really like it! Have you considered a Samsung The Frame TV?

It would be flat against the wall, the matte screen would cut that glare I see on your current TV and you could display "art" when not watching TV.

Here is my 75" Frame TV. I use the sound from the TV speaker as I didn't want to clutter the space with a sound bar, but I'm not a person that needs an immersive sound experience when watching a movie.

Your space is lovely! Given you have such a heftly and dark cabinet, I would hang it to create a bit of space between the two. It would help in making your gorgeous cabinet stand out more. Having it sitting on the cabinet makes the dark larrge tv and dark cabinet sort of meld together.

I would love to see more photos of your room!
