Under the Oak plantings

Our side yard (live in Fort Myers, Florida) faces east and we need ideas on plantings in our large bed under a large live oak … currently we have ginger (towards the back) and a fern tree… the bed slopes down on the sidewalk so looking for ideas for ground cover/plants that will stop the dirt from puddling over to the sidewalk…. Am thinking ferns, tropicals, ground-cover and some low green shrubs for this area but am open to all ideas… area of course is shaded. Looking for low maintenance ideas … plants I like for shade are: iris, crotons, small ferns, grasses, elephant ears, philodendron Burle Marx, dwarf podacarpus, sea grape, elephant ears, porterweed, color annuals, perennials, etc….would like not too many different varieties … just a few masses of plants that complement and contrast ….
