If this was for a pending resale, I'd say get rid of the wallpaper, shower curtain and carpets. Paint the vanity and change the hardware and be done with it. For 5 years down the road, you're really doing it for yourself, though. Because anything you do will not be current in 5 years. So if you hate the sink, tile and vanity, replace those, too. Getting a contractor to do it won't be too bad. It's not small like repairing 1 cracked tile. Replacing the vanity without doing the counter and floor is probably a bad idea. Chances are the new vanity isn't going to fit the counter, and there's a better chance you'll damage the counter pulling it out or putting it back. Be careful on the new toilet. We replaced all ours with low flow models. And the cheap ones are just that. They need to be cleaned almost daily because they aren't glazed properly to get a good rinse with a tiny bit of water. So either leave it, or do your research and get a good one.

instead of mickey mousing this, just get a new vanity with an attached countertop and sink. It's quick easy and will look better than trying to piecemeal this. here, just copy this remove the pink shelf thing over the toilet and replace w/one or two open shelves and some nice artwork. yours is about this size. even if this had black floor tiles, it would still look way better than what you currently have. this is all doable on a budget. Or, get yourself a vanity like this: You could even find a vintage wood chest like this and repurpose it as a vanity. all of these vanities can be had for a few hundred. Check Craigslist and see if you can find any of these vanities for sale. go to Builders Warehouse type of place and see what you can find. If you're on a budget, look up how to redo a small bath for a few hundred. I don't particularly care for that green wall color, so that's up to you. I'd do a wood vanity with quartz top, two tone walls (white and maybe a blue or gray color) and some artwork and shelves over the toilet. new mirror and lighting. I would not keep your current vanity/shelving or your mirror. And remove everything else that's cluttered looking.

What is your budget because that is going to determine what you can achieve. While I am generally in the camp of keeping "retro" bathrooms which are true to the architectural style of a home, in my opinion there is NOTHING worth salvaging in your bathroom. Pardon me for being blunt but you have what appears to be a prefab bath/tub shower - lighting that is identical to the hideous fixture I had in my builder grade 1965 condo when I moved in - a vanity that is not particularly attractive and is basic slab door - again identical to the cheap cabinets I had in my condo :-). If you have the money for it, you could gut it and install a bathroom that is more to your taste while also respecting the architecture of the exterior. I just remodeled my bathrooms and while I opted for a more traditional bathroom inspired by Art Deco, I also admired some very modern bathrooms with walnut slab doors :-). But budget is going to determine the extent of what you can do. From a practical point of view, unless you really have a LOT of money saved, it is probably best to put any major renovations on hold until you have lived in your home for awhile. This will give you a sense of what your priorities are in terms of making your home functional and aesthetic as well as seeing exactly how much it costs each month as home ownership has some economic surprises. There is nothing wrong with your bathroom at the moment - it is clean and looks in good condition and you could jazz it up inexpensively if you have other priorities.

If you plan on redoing the shower and tub, then why not the floor?? No way it's going to work w/any farmhouse/rustic design you want. Plus, you don't have that much. Last thing you want to do is piece meal this bathroom because it's not going to look good. if you can demo the tile floor yourself and ready it for tile, you'll save about 1K. what's behind the wood door in there? Painting the vanity is fine, but you'll need a new countertop. Look for remnants, or pre-fab vanity countertops which aren't that expensive. (the one you have w/the sink is dated. you can find a vanity top and sink for under 500). removing all of the handicap elements will mean drywall repair (unless you can remove them and find simple screw holes) remove all of the molding when you redo the flooring and get more modern style (higher, simple). again, it's not that expensive (maybe .35 a foot) if you learn how to install and paint it yourselves. It's fine to have diff trim inside the bathroom. I'm sure at some point you'll tackle the adjoining room there are tons of tutorials online for DIY on budget. for example, this one was done for under 1K. They obviously kept the same countertop. (but you see what I mean about keeping some things and redoing others? A nice stone top or a white quartz would look 10X better. Save up for another 500 or so and redo the top and sink. You could do this. get a butcher block and cut it to fit (about $150 or so. home depot has cheap ones) Seal it. New sink. $50. Paint your floor tiles (less than 100 including the stencil) , make the shelves/art. Do some wood on the ceiling (find leftovers) find a new light and paint vanity. $300-400. This would actually be really cute. (Royal Design Studio for the stencils) You said you like rustic. so, over the toilet you could make your own shelves. (grab some fir beams at HD, cut it, stain it, get these plumbing brackets and spray those two. If you like this style, you can make these for less than $50) If you like this color for the vanity, great! look up how to paint oak vanities. (you'll need to sand it well, wipe it, prime it, fine sand again, wipe and then paint) Add some nice hardware. Look on craigslist or offer up for leftover countertop/stone pieces. or go to a fabricators shop and see what they have. you can also buy them off HD,LOwes, Wayfair w/a sink, but you'll pay a bit more. Floor tile. If you seriously cannot afford it (I'd wait until you can), then you could paint your current tiles and do some type of stencil. lots of DIY tutorials on "how to paint ceramic tile". most of these makeovers have the shiplap walls, but you don't have to do that. maybe you like a beadboard wainscot? again, do it yourself. it's not difficult. (You could even get leftover wood and do your ceiling)
