If I remember back to the "silly putty times" it's peanut butter that does the trick. But I also know that mose kinds of oil will remove it....and I seem to remember that WD-40 does the best job. But then you have to use a grease and oil remover to get that out. We mostly used peanutbitter to remove it from hair because it's non toxic and easier to control than mineral oil. Good luck! What about the putty that is as hard as cement? Those pieces seem to pop out the easiest when they are a little loose, but when they can't be pried they seem as hard as the wood. Molly, I agree about the sick "crack" sound. It always seems to happen on the fourth side. I try to make myself feel better by thinking that there must have been a small chip under the compound that just ran. I also harvest old glass from windows removed for vinyl replacements and am at about 50% breakage in salvaging that glass. I'm closing up shop for this year, but would love to try some of these ideas on the extra sash I have in the barn. Brick, you are welcome here any time. Just give me about three hours to pop the rest of the sash out. We'll put you up in a great B&B. If you fish, we have some of the best streams for fly fishing.

Casey, um...EUREKA!!! I can just picture it. Can't wait to try it. Thank you so much for sharing. I wish I could say I'm going to jump right on it, but the schedule is getting tight this fall...because I'm applying to school to go for my MArch! Wish I had time to commute to Roger Williams, but I'm sticking to Boston-area schools in the hope that I'll still get to see my kids once in a while. The funny thing is, there are so many great posters on gw, it actually discouraged me from applying. But out in the "real world", I meet many far less-knowledgeable and less-focused people contributing to society just fine in their chosen fields, so I figure, what the heck, even if I'm not the most talented, go for it. Originally I was going to wait until the kids were grown and go to the classical architecture program at Notre Dame, but I decided I just couldn't wait that long to further my own career. But that would have been SO cool. OK, definitely OT, but had to share Casey, bc you are one of my heroes. If I can get half as far and contribute half as much in my field, I'll consider it a smashing success.

I saw where it was all headed, shaking my head in agreement thinking, yeap I totally understand. Was right there with you until you said you broke the legs on the table and I instantly said OH NO....I was so hoping you were not going to say what you said next but you did. THEN my eyes got wide on the machine fell to the floor and bent the arm, I was thinking oh no, poor lady...then you said, I took it I was thinking to the shop but out you came with apart and I actually EEKED! lol, but then you said you fixed it I was like shew! Good thing.... YOU had me all in suspense the whole story, cuz I do that too. I see one thing needs to be done, start doing it then that leads to something else and so on and on and on.... I go outside for something tell him I will be right back then I come back sometimes a LOT later and he says I thought you were coming right back....well I went to the garden! Thank goodness that is over with for this year...ANYWAY, I was feeling it until the machine fell! I hope it didn't do any damage an it still functions correctly, I personally would have been ranting about maybe breaking my machine. At any rate, I hope your relaxing hour or two comes and you can actually sit down an sew for a while. I am with Donna on that closing the curtains thing, out of site out of mine, you can look at the pond while you are outside lol. :) Aqua
