Is the GC taking responsibility for this? Have you confirmed this in writing? If they are, and have confirmed this in writing etc. then let the GC call the shots - they're on the hook for repairs and if that means replacing your counters, then that's what that means. As long as whoever is doing the repair work stands behind it and ultimately will reimburse you or replace the counters, then a) make sure it's all agreed in writing and b) let them do what they say they need to do. Ensure that the measure of success is indicated - how much of the stain do they have to remove to be 'good'? What if the spot is still visible be it as a darkened area or difference in the final finish (etched etc). BTW - your marble counter top is polished? It's not going to stay that way for long. We have 50 sq ft of marble counters in the kitchen (white) and it's honed. More typical for counters as etching isn't as visible. One drop of toothpaste or anything acidic will be a very very visible spot.

Sorry no one has offered help. The closest I've come to your problem was spilling liquid soap on flagstone. Because it was outside, I had to flood it with water and it eventually disappeared. It took a lot of water. Jane

There has been a poultice mentioned here before. Google that and try it. Chances are you have everything you need at home now. I had a strawberry stain that came out with the poultice. The poultice is talcum powder and peroxide, made into a paste and left on the counter. I can't remember the exact instructions but it should be easy to find.

A clamp lite with a heat lamp bulb will work but you need to be careful so that the lamp doesn't get the stone hot (which it will do if its too close). easier would be a heat pad like you'd use for a sore muscle laid over the poultice with a sheet of plastic between the wet and the heating pad. As before, you want the stone warm but not hot. you might also consider a "homemade" poultice of acetone and diatomaceous earth (the white powder used in swimming pool filters or to keep slugs away from landscape plants.) you make a very wet paste of the acetone and DE and then cover it 3 sides with plastic. leave until the paste is dried out. Cover the bottom of the hole in the stone and also put paste in the hole. This is what we used in the incident I mentioned previously.
