Install door or cabinets first?

We’re building an ADU and GC seems to be planning to install the floors first and the. Cabinets. I’m curious, is the at normal? Does wall painting happen first or after all that? They’re a good GC in terms of build quality and have done many projects but they’re planning and communication is meh. I’m trying to understand if it’s normal/reasonable that they do the floors first, or if we need to push back.

I have built 3 custom homes and the flooring has gone in before cabinets on all three.

All the comments are excellent. If you prime and paint the walls first, how do you know where the studs are to hang the cabinets? I guess we could use a stud finder, but I (home owner) thought it would be easier to hang the cabinets before priming and painting. We plan to use a professional painter and will also seek his advice. I want to keep the project moving so I thought we could hang the upper cabinets while the drywall is being mudded and finished in other rooms. Any views?

Should I install fireplace doors first and then tile around them?

Fireplace doors are made to fit into a specific space. If you find a set that works for you, and measure your fire box carefully, too, I think you could do it either way. But fireplace doors come with hardware to sink them into the fire box opening so I think you could do it after, too. I guess it depends on how costly the tile will be, and if you don't mind fitting the fireplace doors into the tile. But I would do it first, myself.

Stupid I know but I just breathed a huge sigh of relief! My guys came to work today said their hello's and got right after it. Called me in the kitchen to show me how they had fixed the drywall that was bowed behind sink and is now flush and level with cabinets installed. Great! Close to templating! Woo hoo! The head guy says what's the blue tape on the doors? I said "I see there is another ding in the cabinet here now from the work on Friday. These dings are really bothering me and I don't want any dings in my new cabinets. I said had it been down low or inconspicuous maybe it would be ok but I need these doors replaced." He said OK. I kept going with my spiel saying "I'm happy to help do what I can to protect the others going forward" Wait what did he just say?! He said OK! That was easy! He then says no problem. I want you to be happy. :) I smile he smiles even tho he probably wants to kill me ;) Geez, I'm really going to be a nervous wreck when counter tops go in. Just thought I'd share for anyone else going thru the same issue. Hope this helps.

It depends what type of flooring it is. Cabinets don't get installed on top of floating floors. Otherwise, it's better to do floors first.

Since you say you have a good GC, why are you questioning this decision? Why do you feel the need to push back on it?

This forum can be funny. If you had not questioned, and then the flooring was installed incorrectly, people on here would be blaming you for not asking any questions. You can't win on the Houzz Kitchens forum!

You need to tell us what floors you are having installed. As @catbuilder said, floating floors are installed after cabinets. If you are installing traditional hardwood or tile floors, they are installed before cabinets.

Wall painting is last.

The floors are luxury vinyl planks SPC, 30mil wear layer. Thanks for the advice so far. I’m trying to educate myself so I can ask informed questions.

Sorry, MIller, you're out of line with your accusation. The OP is feeling a need to push back, but it is unclear why. Usually that means there is more to the story than what is being told.

Will the floor be a floating installation? If so, cabinets go first.

Floating plastic goes after cabinets and butts up to them with an expansion gap.

Based on your mention that your GC's planning and communication is just okay, I think it's wise of you to double-check things by asking for other opinions beforehand. It's easier and cheaper to make changes before things are built in.
