Awkward drywall hole needs fixing

An electrician left a hole in my attic / AC area that I need to fix. It's very awkwardly located and seems to have been covered previously with something like plaster strips. I have aluminum drywall patches, but am not confident I can get it adhered well or fitted in the space. Its a hidden attic area but needs covering to stop unconditioned air flow since the area is also the AC intake. Any recommendations on a DIY way to cover? Not sure if something like duct tape would work. Maybe something similar and then joint tape and spackle over? Any help or direction is appreciated.
