Looking to update my 70s ranch exterior ideas?
Comments (1)Take the shutters off, your windows are not designed for shutters. Paint the front door a bright color, unless that is a natural wood finish, then leave it. Remove wreath. Get a couple of large planters and fill with bright annuals in one, maximum two colors of your choosing and put them on each side of the entry walk. The siding could stand to be a creamier color, the existing color looks a bit pinkish and the stone looks a bit gold-ish. Need closeups....See MoreNeeding Ideas for Ranch House Exterior Update!

Comments (4)I do like that photo! I like that sort of grand entrance and I think the black balconies look pretty nice, though I would maybe do a simpler design. But seeing that photo makes me think black might look really nice. Unfortunately we moved some things around internally and no longer had space for the double door. And splitting the balconies I guess is more to open up opportunity for the entrance/front door area and the private balconies were sort of a secondary bonus....See MoreDesign ideas for exterior of brown split level ranch. Comments (13)Some suggestions... 1. I would extend the wood siding down to the ground in front and paint it black. This simplifies the facade and helps to make it feel more modern, and contrasts with the brick. It makes it feel crisp. 2. Either flatten the bay window or make it a box bay and extend the black aluminum surround to the bottom windows. This further simplifies the facade and brings in and architectural element. 3. Update the door with a more modern version to match the modern asthetic of the rest of the house. 4. Remove the shutters. They don't match the more MCM style of the house. 5. When it's time to replace the roof, go with black shingles. It will help with more contrast. 6. Landscape, landscape, landscape. Here is what it could look like......See MoreNatalie Barnum
