Paint Windows Design Dilemma

Help with brick tudor exterior update

We are replacing the siding and windows on our brick tudor home and am wanting suggestions to go with our brick. I’ve included some close up pics of our brick color.

*We plan to remove the overgrown bushes in the front as well.

House is Tudorish, not really a Tudor, more just a Colonial with some embellishments.

Here are 4 different color schemes with your brick superimposed on the photos.

IMO the bottom right corner might be the best solution.

I used a BM app to find colors that complement your brick. I like the body color you currently have, which is very similar to BM Cotswold. I think the sharper contrast of Bittersweet Chocolate would look great for the trim. I think much larger sconces would be appropriate for the garage. The one shown below is 18” high and is Dark Sky compliant.

No paint brick - that would be putting an inferior finish over a quality item. Its a nice variegated brick, not the heavy orange type that some people complain about. An argument might be made for applying a masonry stain to tone down a color... not that it needs it... but to put an opaque high maintenance plastic coating (eg acyrlic) isnt a good idea for the long term. I wholeheartedly agree w/above suggestions to remove the fake tudor and rethink those spaces under the eaves and around the windows- even just simple paint in a well-chosen brown that bridges the brick and roof colors would be a big improvement. Sometimes less is more, and I would argue that a handsome house in natural brick or stone and muted nature-colors is often the most beautiful house on the block. Then, you could put your $ and effort into some really lovely landscaping & perhaps pillars but I wouldnt get carried away with reinventing the architecutral elements - its very nice & balanced as is. Is that the view from the side? Looks like the street is off to the left?

Really nice house. Would not paint the brick -- not ever. You might consider removing the two trees leaning toward the house before a storm --wind storm and/or ice storm or even lightening -- puts them on your roof. While you already have room to create a portico, if you remove the two trees, you'll have plenty of room for a larger front porch -- either one will look good with forward facing gable with its ridge point the same height as the gable on the left side and it would be a good idea to make a decision on that before replacing the roof. If you've been considering enlarging the house to extend the upstairs over the single story section on the left end of the ground floor and/or adding a porch or room elsewhere, Decide that before redoing the roofing. If a new roof is needed, make that your priority. medium/dark gray shingles are as close to neutral as shingles get. Newer metal roofs now have an extended warranty. Talk with your homeowner insurance company and see if they can give you any information about how metal roofs age in your geographic location that might help you make your decision. Probably would not choose metal myself with that style house -- they tend to look better with steep roofs. Siding color you have is neutral and works well with the brick so if it doesn't need changing, wouldn't make that a priority.

If u r keeping windows then keep tutor elements. It looks charming. But if updating windows I could see going farmhouse I pass a 80s tutor that was just updated similar to yours They changed windows black and painted brick stucco all white and added the faux wood garage doors. The house look new

I've been researching exterior before/afters for a few months now for a house of a totally different era than yours (and mine is ugly!). But...I have to say I'm loving the trend that goes single color - these days the trend is white or cream. Your garage forces itself to the front of the facade - I'd love to see that minimized and a single color would go a long way to making it feel like its part of the whole house.

I know it isn’t about your paint colors, but the expanse of brick over your garage doors might benefit from a pergola with Tudor styled supports on either end and in the middle. A way of bringing some character to that side of your home. Also, consider carriage style garage doors with cross hatching and hardware, too. Yes to increasing the size of your sconces. Dark bronze metal lanterns. Lovely home!

@ptreckel, we talked about the idea of a pergola over the garage doors but didnt know if that would fit the style? What would Tudor style supoorts look like? We have also wondered about putting siding and trim (to match the rest)) over the top portion of the garage triangle as an attempt to break up/downplay the garage.

I was inspired by the lighter tones in this photo BeverlyFLADeziber posted. I think BM Fondant for the body and Costwold for the trim would be lovely.

Use one color with the brick. Minimize the trim, accents that are Tudorish. Paint the garage doors the gray of the roof.

I would look at the Tudor corbels on the homes that BeverlyFLADeziner posted. You can see how they are sort of chunky, as if cut of timber. Nothing huge, but subtle. I think those could enhance the structure of a pergola on your home. Corbels are usually found on porches, gable ends, etc. You could have a conventional pergola with those as the support pieces. Painted the trim color of your choice.

I like the colors in Beverly’s top right and bottom right examples. Matching the color of the mortar in the bricks can often work nicely.
