Woodworking Design Dilemma Kitchens

Ceiling Centerpiece

I have a ceiling being installed, there is a metal tube that all of the ceiling beams are resting on. I didn’t want ti just drywall it, because it’ll just crack down the road, I would like a statement piece. We are not putting a light fixture there because it doesn’t align with the kitchen. I was thinking some type of round piece of wood or something like that. The wires hanging will be recessed adjustable lights.

Hickory flooring
White slab cabinets
White quartz countertops

fyi, the rims can be painted after installation. Charliedawg, our plugs are perfect. With the lakeview, fireplace, tv, open kitchen and arches to DR and foyer, there is really only one natural place for our sofa. I knew we wanted to put a sofa table behind it, so we left room for that and enough room to walk between table and the cedar posts at the kitchen opening. The electrician said there was no rush since the plugs were going into the main level, which is second story, so we were able to wait until house was framed to decide exactly where they were going. DH and I used empty boxes to place where the sofa and measured to make sure there was enough room behind for table. 8ft kitch ceiling, what type of light over island?

Thought I would update the thread I started when I was trying to figure out what type of light to get for above the island with an 8 foot ceiling. Well here are some pics. We chose a pendant light we found (Juno onyx) at Design Expo. With our GC's help we got a flat ceiling mount/transformer (the one at the store was more conical) We wanted something with a low profile, because of the 8 ft ceiling. We love it. Hey M…ok your sofa has a contempory style so I would look at contempory styled accent chairs and coffee tables…if wanting to bring in any metal finishes..look at some gold it is such a nice warm metal and has a pretty formal presents in a room…where will you be shopping? I can always look on the website and see what they have.

The pine cones + charred bowl + runner is really pretty and practical for everyday — especially if there are six of you eating there for most meals. We are a family of six, and small centerpieces are most practical for us these days because the food takes up so much space on the table. That being said, what about something like this — three containers full of fruit or mini pumpkins or pine cones:

Hmm. Is this a traditional home or a modern one? Hard to tell from these photos.

If it's traditional, I might opt for molding, like this:

The other option is that you just wallpaper or paint the ceiling and don't try to highlight the round section:

Hello all,

The tube is metal, the joists are wood. The tube is what supports all of the wood joists for the roof structure.

They could drywall it, but it was just an awkward circle. I’d like to make it a statement piece.

There will not be a light fixture here, it would not be centered to the kitchen.

This is a 14 sided Eagle’s Nest Home.

Given the style of the house, my personal preference would be plain plaster. But since that's not your preference, once it is complete, you can add a ceiling medallion of your choice. Have you seen examples of what you were inspired by?

IMO no medallion it takes awy from the unique shape of the space and draws your eye to it when trying to layout furniture . I think you already have a odd kitchen layout in this space and to add more confusion is not a good idea. Do a simple ceiling in plaster . IMO a fabulous ceiling light would be a much better choice but I still need to see what is going on in this odd but interesting space . I think simple is best and once you get the furniture in there then you decide what the ceiling needs if anything.

Just drywall over the tension ring. Use control joints just like with each roof plane. Because the ring does not adhere with any location or design lines with the kitchen, and since the layout and probably cabinet and material selections of the kitchen itself and all walls do not account for the unique design and roof structure, making this ring be a "statement piece" will actually be a distraction. The picture of what I assume is the prior-to-remodel kitchen looks good as the ring is unassuming.

If you don't want to put a light there because it won't be centered on the kitchen, why would you want to put something attention drawing there at all?
