I have the 13promax and I love it. It's a little bigger but I bought it for the camera actually. LOL And I want to upgrade soon. I don't really use my phone as a phone as I text more than anything.

First thing though: turn on iTunes and backup your phone!!!! You'll lose your pictures that you do have but if you back it up to icloud, those pictures will be saved. Then you can download them to your computer should you decide to get a Samsung or another phone. BTW: the Samsung 23 something takes THE most fantastic pictures putting iphone to shame....

You don't have to turn FaceID on for any iPhone. You can continue to use a passcode to unlock the phone. FaceID doesn't work that well for me because sometimes I have glasses, sometimes I have a fringe, etc. so I never turn it on.

I have a 13ProMax and have had it for about 2 years. I really love it despite its size. DH has another model (smaller) and i can’t recall which one. I love the Face ID because sometimes I just don’t want to touch stuff or be bothered entering anything.

I have heard good things about the Samsung camera but i do use my iPhone camera a lot and am happy with it. Do try to get to the Apple store and get a guru to help you back up your data though.

DH gave me an iPhone 13 mini last year afte my old phone developed Alzheimers’. It was really weird, it turned out that the latest update had been incompatible with my admittedly ancient previous iPhone, which caused it to be unable to find phone numbers in my contacts list- I couldn’t search by name, but if I knew the number and keyed it in, the phone would display the name of the contact.

I prefer a smaller phone so I can carry it around in my pocket. I don’t mind the face recognition, it does make life easier, and it’s not like it shows your face or anything. You can still use a password and if you’ve restarted your phone from being off or flattened the battery you will need to use a password anyway.

Thanks, Fun2B. I find w my current phone (before it broke) it would time out on me. I could just finger touch ID to turn it back on. I have soft tissue tendinitis issues, so sometimes even typing 6 digits repeatedly can be quite painful. I used to like computer related things and was decent at trouble shooting. But for years now have been in substantial untreated chronic pain that limits what I can do and intrudes upon my concentration.

Looking around, reading or things that involve manual clicking make it difficult to explore solutions. For example, I thought that there was a way to keep my iphone UNlocked or lengthen the time on before time out period. Maybe that was my previous phone. I like just being able to press my finger to it. (I did find that index fingers aren’t the best choice bc they are often wet, have a bandage on them or whatever.

Maybe I can get a snapshot of some celebrity and flash that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Best thing is to go into an Apple store and look at and touch the phones and talk to an Apple pro. Everyone here is just going to say what they use, which might not meet your requirements and needs.

My daughter and I have 13 Pro, wife and son have the 13 Pro Max. All are happy. I like facial recognition; glasses don't matter. Mask does. I like the size of the Pro, virtually the same as my previous SE but screen size bigger. I don't do any crazy photography but naturally it's the best of my flight thus far.

I've never paid for any non-hardware support at Apple, regardless if I bought there or not. I'd go there soober rather than later before all is lost.

Only difficulty I have had with my 14 Pro recognizing my face is if I am lying in bed. When that happens I use my passcode number. It normally recognizes me with glasses, masks of various types, and wild hair in my face.

One difficulty that I have recently discovered is that when traveling in other countries you cannot use a sim card to connect locally. I was "told" that availability was phased out after Iphone 12.

I like the facial recognition feature and it almost always works. I got sick of entering passwords.

Thanks, everyone. I will try to look at the various phones and feel them. I can inquire about my phone and gettind data from it. My DH has air drop recued some. I can delete some and cull and high light what I want to rescue. My hair repair peraon (stylist, colorist, ( oh yeah), Pre-pandemic had a Samsung phone witha large screen and nice photos.

I like being able to pocket my phone.

With my 13 mini, it recognises me with/withut a mask, with/without glasses, but as maifleur said, not so much when I’ve just woken up. You really just have to barely brush the screen with your finger while looking at it to open it, certainly not pressing as hard as the button on the old fingerprint recognition button.

To keep it awake for longer, go to ”Settings” then open ”Display & Brightness”, then scroll down to Auto-Lock and open that. You can select from 30 seconds, 1,2,3,4 and 5 minutes or Never. Just be aware that if you choose Never you will have to manually turn your phone off using the side button and if you don’t or it gets accidentally turned on again, you could end up with a flat battery.

I still use an iPhone 8. I haven't updated because I want the home button. My son has a newer model and it doesn't have a home button and I can't figure out how to use it.

I've gone into the Apple Store many times for help. They have never charged anything. They straighten things out and just recently showed me how to unsubscribe for something I wanted to get rid of. I've never been charged for anything or had to leave my phone.

Go there and look at the new phones and talk to someone. I haven't updated my phone and no one ever pushes me to. They are all very nice.

Do you feel it needs to be locked? I don't use the "security" feature on my phone at all. It's not necessary.

If someone steals your phone, @arcy_gw, it's worth it to them because they can just go ahead and use it. I don't want random strangers using my phone.

@jane__ny, I thought I'd want a home button too but when my old phone went doolally I had no choice. Frankly I don't miss it. To exit an application you just swipe up from the bottom of the screen where there's a short white line across the bottom of the screen. It closes the application and takes you back to the home screen.

I, too, was apprehensive about losing the home button, but it was a quick adjustment. I don't miss it at all.

@arcy_gw I would never leave my phone unlocked! Mine has too much on it to leave it unsecured. My banking app's are on it. I can pay using apple pay with it. Nope! If it were to get stolen, or if I lost it it's too big of a risk. All your photos can disappear if someone else gets it in their hands. My phone is more private than my purse. It's locked up tighter than Fort Knox. You might want to rethink not having it secured.

Also, I use face recognition for pretty much everything on my phone. It's rare it doesn't recognize me.

I bought an Apple Iphone 13 pro last year. They made me get rid of the flip phone I liked. I only used the flip phone to talk and text. I selected the Pro, because of the large screen. I cannot see the small screens. It is heavy, but the screen is only slightly smaller than my IPad. I like it, because what I do one one, is on the other. I will be getting an Apple desktop to replace my old whatever, not Apple. While I like the weight and size of my flip phone, it is not supported anymore.

As my son says, Apple just works. They work separate and together. MIcrosoft does not. My husband has another different system (Google?) and it is not near as nice.

I too switched from an Android phone to an iPhone in the last year. Grudgingly but because Android phone prices and sizes have gone up too much for my preferences and iPhones have dropped.

Apple products do automatically integrate. For some, that's useful. For others, like my wife, it's a capability without much usefulness.

Both types of phones work competently though somewhat differently. There is little in the way of hardware differences, it's mostly in the user interfaces. I have become competent with the iPhone's idiosyncrasies, but I don't prefer its user interface. It tends to be inflexible with settings and doesn't offer users configuration options that Android does.

A summary of my familiarity with both - for most users, there's little difference in functionality.

My daughter, SIL, and grandson have so many Apple products they could start a store. My son is a loyal android user and I am a 90% Apple user only having a Windows desktop. But I am constantly amazed at how Apple products coordinate. I recently bought AirPods and as I was hiking yesterday, my Simon and Garfunkel song was interrupted by a woman's voice relaying a text I had just received. One more feature I was unaware of.
