Its perfect day out there- what are you planting out?
Comments (20)Since I have plenty of stuff growing in my garden it is pretty easy to see what is actively growing right now. I have bunch of primulas blooming- I am figuring it is safe enough to plant out my seedlings, I have lots of columbines doing real well- columbine seedlings out they go, my hardy geraniums go gangbusters- geraniums go out too. Karen as far I as your seedlings cleomes can go anytime they are pretty hardy and I DS them, as well as larkspur. V1- I always have leaves so never used anything else but some straw could do as well- anything fluffy and light will do. At this time my zip code does not show any cold spells, only occasional drop during the night to 32. What that means that for an hour or two during very early morning air temps will drop to 32F. Soil being heated during the day will keep higher temps with no problems. Hardy perennials specially spring blooming ones have built in protection for such temps and have no problems growing outside. I have been doing it for while and have to do plantings this way- my gardens are too established so I have to give seedlings best fighting chance to survive. Would suggest waiting another week but do not hold too long for tough perennial seedlings- they grow much better when planted out....See MoreHosta Pic of the Day Sun Power
Comments (7)Bernd, That Sun Power is mid-60s wide and 36 inches tall. It gets a lot of sun but not full sun, the sugar maple just behind it gives some shade. It's on a hill for good drainage. The Journey's End is 67 by 24... You never know what's going to turn out to be a good spot. There's a 63 by 31 Regal Splendor right behind it, but can't be seen because of the lighting. If you look carefully, you can see a Great Expectations peeking up between Journey's End and Sun Power. It's the only GE I've gotten to grow much and it's still quite young....See MoreBertazzoni gas range comprehensive review
Comments (71)I have had a Bertazzoni 36" gas range with 5 burners for about 7 years now and I absolutely hate it. It replaced a 5 year old Thermador which kept breaking down. When it worked, the Thermador oven was fantastic and the temperature incredibly accurate. My Bertazzoni is quite the opposite: the oven temperature is not calibrated, unless I have a thermometer in the oven, I have no clue what the temp is, I cannot rely on the outside knob, it's inaccurate. My cakes are often burned on the outside and raw on the inside. The bottom of the oven has been curling up, it seems quite flimsy. The igniter broke twice and now, I cannot use the broil setting because it will not ignite. The top burners are ok, the largest one (2 part) is practical for very large pots (we are a large family, we often utilize larger pasta pots) but it still takes for ever for water to boil. Cleaning the burners is quite challenging, especially if liquids boil over. One of my oven lights burnt 2 years ago and no one was able to help me purchase a new one. Customer service at Bertazzoni suggested I go to a lighting shop for a bulb, they were not able to sell me a replacement one. I did just that and was told by 3 shops that they do not carry this type of light bulb. All in all, I would not recommend this gas range. I am now in the market for a new one, does anyone have any recommendations?...See MoreDay 5 of no power....
Comments (17)I'm back, we have power! Yay, it came on and went off again within 2 minutes earlier, but now it seems to be on to stay on. I hope so, anyway, I'm looking forward to a long, hot shower and a good night's sleep. And reading by electical light, won't that be a treat! I tried to get in to the clinic today but they weren't open. I'll try that warm oil treatment and the warm towel, too if it gets bad again. My ear hasn't hurt since I got up this morning, but it does feel kind of odd when I touch around it. Thanks for all the sympathy and tips. I have a lot to catch up on, lots to read!...See More- 3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago
