Do you freeze dinner rolls?
Comments (0)Do you freeze them before or after they rise? I sometimes freeze already baked rolls, but they don't taste as good as fresh baked. I want to serve marigene's dinner rolls on July 4th. My family loves them. I'll be working all that week so I'd like to mix, knead and put them in pans a few days early, and just bake them off on the day of the barbeque. Has anyone tried this? At what point during the process should I freeze them? If I let them rise first, will I need to let them thaw before baking? I'm organized enough to make them the same day when I'm doing the dinner. When DH does a BBQ - I try to stay out of his way! Marigene posted this recipe quite a while ago (I usually skip the second rise). They are easy to make and always a big hit! The Spicery Rolls 1 1/2 cups boiling water 1/2 cup margarine (I use butter) 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 cups water (hot but not boiling) 6 ounces evaporated milk 1/4 cup yeast (yes, that is correct...I use Instant yeast) 9 1/8 cups flour In a large bowl, pour boiling water over butter. Add salt and sugar and stir well. When butter is melted, mix in additional water. Stir in evaporated milk. Slowly add flour and yeast. Turn out onto floured board and knead for about 10 minutes. Next grease a large bowl thoroughly, put the dough in it and turn it over so the surface will be greased. Let rise in a warm place until doubled, punching down twice, about an hour. form into dinner-size rolls. Let rise until doubled. Bake 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 36 large rolls....See MoreWhat's for dinner, it's Saturday night!
Comments (12)Yum, sausages, peppers and onions sound good!! Hubby made dinner tonite. He put sliced onions in foil and sliced potatoes, with olive oil, pepper and oregano in another foil packet. Grilled them, and made hamburgers. Delicious! I made strawberries and whipped cream between graham wafers. Freeze for 15 minutes. That's our new favourite dessert!...See MoreHelp with freezing dinners for a sick relative
Comments (13)Sharon, I'm sorry to hear you have an ill family member, and I hope she recovers soon and completely. I've frozen Shepherd's pie unbaked, and it comes out well that way. I usually assemble lasagna and freeze it uncooked, then bake when I want it. I do cook the lasagna noodles before assembly, though. As Peppi says, I think the chicken parm is OK fully cooked, then simply warmed, but the Shepherd's pie and the lasagna I think are better frozen then baked right before eating. I've never tried to freeze mac and cheese, but I have frozen stuffed shells and manicotti and they were fine, I did those like the lasagna, assembled and froze them, then baked when needed. I like the idea of homemade TV dinners, there may be some days when she feels better than others, and on "down" days, it would probably be nice to just pop a whole meal into the microwave and be done with it. Don't forget breakfast either, I like breakfast for supper sometimes. Pancakes and French toast freeze well, as do breakfast burritos and sandwiches with egg/cheese/ham or whatever. So do scones and muffins. Good luck, I'm sure she appreciates all your help and thoughtfulness in helping her stay strong while she recovers. Annie...See MoreBig freeze Friday night/Saturday morning. Comments (1)you are going to have a freeze ... frost is rather irrelevant ... you must have a rather large garden.. with that list.. at some point ... you just have to swing with ma nature.. and pray for the best ... even with severe damage.. not much just dies ... most things can releaf at least once .. it repeated .. maybe a second time ... the extreme would be a freeze that got down to root level.. but that isnt goin to happen in may in indy ... ephemeral flowers.. are easily lost.. and you shrug and say.. well.. next year ... in my experience ... just let the damage evolve for a few weeks.. and then start to prune out damage.. or take action .. by then.. the plant will show you want was ruined.. and what is now recovering .... imo.. too many peeps run out there.. and just start whacking stuff off .. and i understand the impulse.. but just try to be patient ... let the plants show you what need be done ... ken...See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
