Typically I would use the same white on the walls and the trim/doors. Who's paying for the paint job? Is the landlord okay with you painting the trim and doors? How long will you be living there?

If it were me I would get a sample of Simply White (samplize.com sells painted samples for about $6.00) and look at it next to the brighter white. Does it make the Simply White too yellow? The trim looks like a bright white in the pictures, but it is agianst a dark golden yellow. It may not be as bright white as it looks when it is next to simply white. May look gray or dingy.

Mixing whites is all about comparing the two whites next to each other.

You won't know if Simply White works with the trim till you see the two next to each other.

Thank you for this. I should have said that it's a condo, not an apartment. I'm a first-time homeowner. I've had an incredibly hard time choosing a color and need to nail things down in the next week or so. The condo is on the ground floor and doesn't get too much light, so I'm looking to brighten it up a bit.

Simply White is creamier and darker than I would want for trim. And if you want to paint one room a different color, Simply White trim is going to limit your options. We paired Simply White Walls with White trim (Benjamin Moore OC 151 "White"). Love it.

I’ve seen spaces painted all the same white…BM Simply White, BM White Dove, SW Alabaster and SW Extra White. All the same white with different finishes and all really lovely.

In my previous house I did my trim, doors and crown in BM Aura Simply White in semi-gloss finish. It is still a bright white and I never had any problems pairing it with other colors.

In my new house I went with BM Chantilly Lace because I was doing all white cabinets in the north facing kitchen and the CL was the only white that stayed white in that space. So I stuck with CL for all my trim, doors, crown.

It makes sense to us that painting the walls white will make thing light and bright, but the truth is that white needs light to reflect in order for it to really look nice. Without enough light it can fall flat.

You may get better results using a light neutral with contrasting bright white trim.
